Broadband/ADSL
« on: November 26, 2006, 08:01:15 PM »
Just wondering if there were many stations out there who are hooked up to broadband? I know there are some that decided to do it so that they could look up weather reports etc online during incidents for about the same cost as having a dedicated line for dial up. Also sends pager messages quicker I believe as it doesnt have to dial up.

We could...if Telstras lines / exchange was good enough to have Broadband.........a large area of my district cannot get broadband (unless you got satellite...)

In terms of Government Grants for Broadband, we are classed as having third world phone lines, and hence qualify for the highest rebate from the Government, if we get satellite broadband installed...    :|

And all this just 20 km from the GPO.

One day, we might even get broadband !!   :-)

All you need is the pager ID and you can send it via email, so you don't need dial-up

Interesting. In the new SES GRN/Comms course we teach about the email facility. Can be used by family members of the SES volunteer and as an 'not recommended' facility. Too many chances of wrong email address and too many points of failure. But it is available and hopefully the spelling or location names can be better than Link operators .

I'd never get up the hills in hot weather!!   :-D

And Ath, we fight fires fairly well in the hills, because most of us have one leg shorter than the other, so we can stand up straight on the mountainous slopes   :-D
