Guess someones a little concerned that with the weather - crews leaving areas for the comps may be an issue!

Although in the words of Howard MacBeth several years ago when asked is SA was under threat due to fire fighters going out of area - 'If we asked for another 1000 fire fighters to go to NSW, we would get them'
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.

so where will the comps be next year?? or will it not return at all?? I would hope it is still part of CFS but I only have one suggestion to those who canned this years....Please have a back up group who can jump in and help if the host group/brigade has been too busy.....

why not just stick them in the middle of winter, then cadets can train during the fire season when it is heaps harder to get out on trucks for training anyway??

just my point of view after comming up from cadets!

would make a little bit of sense ey....

not sure a backup group/brigade would work bill as most of the judges are staff... staff that ended up being IMT etc over that weekend.

If we hold the comps in a normal winter, then we get to cancel them because it is too wet!!!    :-(

There are three types of people in the world.  Those that watch things happen, those who make things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

So there is the problem most of the judges are STAFF?? Well I have been asking our brigade rep who is on the comps committee that there needs to be a judges school and that way Volunteers would be able to run/work along side the paid staff... Now if you look interstate each year they hold a judge school and comps there are run by Volunteers all the time... Time the comps committee got their act together and held a school or two.....

What the .......? Most of the judges are staff??? Last time I looked - last year, a hand full of the judges were staff, the majority were and or are current volunteers, who are wearing CFS field uniform.

I heard that the previous format of Comps is to be scrapped.

A new committee is being put together to modernise the format of the day and make it more appealing to all.

The Goolwa comps are all over and will not be rescheduled, the new committee may go back to having regional comps or come up with something completely new.

I also heard that the cancelling of comps due to 'operational' reasons was a blessing as there was only about 10 brigades actually registered to compete - hence the need to overhaul the format.
Crankster on scene, you can take a stop...

2090

It would be great to see the CFS modernise the comps a whole lot. A couple of BA event would be fantastic. You just need to look at the comps held by some other Australian Fire Services to see what could be done.

CFS_Firey

What do other Australian fire services do in their comps 2090?

5271rescue

1) pumper/ladder events

2) hose and reel

3)nswrfs do rural events(chainsaw,rakehoes,knapsacks)

4)appliances drills

5)marching

whoo hoo 100m rake hoe event!

Pipster

A BA exercise would be good, and some rural type drills, involving driving current appliances (with a focus on maneuverability, and not be able to get up any speed..

It would be good to see the events based on current SOP's & FGP...
