Chevrons question

Do brigades still issue chevrons when they are due or is this a thing of the past  :?
1 Chevron = 2 Years service
Red Star = 10 Years service
Gold Star = 20 Years service

Sadly fire03rescue its a thing of the past now as they stopped giving them out due to volunteers sewing them on to overalls so people on the fire ground could see how many years service they have plus the chevrons werent fire proof

If they were still giving them out i would have had 1 chevron and a red star sewed to my CFS hat by now

I believe that some of the problem came about with them being sewn on to PPC...

We all understand the no no's related to the chevrons and stars etc being sewn onto PPC. Since when have they stopped distributing them, our Brigade gave awards last year with chevrons and stars (albeit i'm not sure what i am going to do with them).

You can still get them but can't wear them that is why there is a new CFS medal coming out.....

yea i got given them a year or so back, but was told not to attach them to my turnout gear, so what was the point?

I supaglue mine to my helmet.

You still get the Certificate and the bars / stars -( I was led to believe a cheveron is an arrow stripe like Police / MFS - not the solid straight bar)....  Nice thing to keep at the bottom of the drawer for memory sake. -(got mine in an evelope)

whatever happened to the stickers on helmets... little bars for 2 years and the little starts for 10s as stated... do most brigades still do thast? unfortunately i think that has stopped also.

for those that dont know; these little stickers would generally sit on the reflective striping on the helmet side... :wink:

we still get chevrons given to us, but the same policy with them on ppc
i personally think a good place for then is on a brigade polo sleeve
that way people are still seeing how many years service you have achieved, which i think is something to be proud of.

Yes, I too have always dreamed of turning my CFS polo shirt, T-shirt and alike into boy scout shirts, with badges from one side to the other!

The pride I wear is my PPE/C - it shows my commitment to my comunity, my service and my dedication!

It's sad as I never even got one chevron which symbolises 2 years when I passed my 2 years service in 2002  :cry:

can you get a red cord in the CFS? manuel also needs a badge to acknowledge 25 nights under canvas! hahahaha. sorry manny, but the mental image of a brigade polo with chevrons is just too filtered much! hahahaha :lol:

Sorry Lion Heart to offend - but do you really think that Mr Average down the street knows or even gives a toss what we have sewn or applicated onto our polo shirts! IF our community was interested, I believe we would see this in their support, not in their acknowledgment of what we wear!
