I have tone 7 on my pager and whenever a fire call occurs this tone informs me that theres a fire call which needs to be responded to quickly

Needless to say that i move really quickly when the pager sounds  :-D

Nothing worse than getting dressed for a job and some idiot comes thundering through the back door and says "so what job is it" honestly it takes 5 whole seconds to read the pager.... Sorry pet hate people who don't read their pagers.

thats when you get those people to learn there lesson by sending a test response page out of the blue.

I hate it when people don't read the pager, we have a member who is first to the stations most times and still does not read his pager. He allways asks what have we got, which truck. I just tell him if you don't   have any idea you can't get on ( he now is starting to read the messages)

i live practically next door to the fire station, so i usually just leg it there during the day, and not really read my pager and if it is a test i just socialize with the people at the station testing stuff.  :-D.

So in all that extra time you have (eg: living next door) you can't read your pager?

*sigh*

My rule for fire calls is that if i hear the pager sound during mid morning early or late arvo then it's obvious that theres an emergency which needs to responding to

My pet hate is the same as Blinky's as i see alot of people bolt into the station asking whats going on because they didnt read their pager after it went off... not to brag or nothing i usually listen to the situation before my pager sounds via the scanner either in my car or in the kitchen that way i know abit more of whats happening so when the pager does sound i know what im responding to

Rob you are very lucky that you don't have firecalls in the early morning or late at night, must be nice to be able to predict that and work out when you can have a big night.

Listening to the scanner doesn't really give you the jump it used to anymore, occassionally SAAS will give out an MVA a minute or two before we get the page but nine times out of then they don't bother responding us anyway so you may as well just not worry about it.

My pet hate is call pickers - we all know who they are but there is little you can do about it. Bring back the tone only pagers

tone only pagers.....go back to the last century.

There is nothing wrong with call picking to some extent.  Im at work and shouldnt leave unless its absolute necessary, so i dont wanna go running out the door when the tone only pager goes off for a search or priority two patient lift or something relatively low priority.

the message on the pager allows me too work out whether i should leave work and help my community or help my work out and continue working.

I don't know about this call picking, it seems that many people do actually pick their calls, I see that work is a good excuse for call picking, as some people wont leave unless it is a job that requires BA, and they are BA, i think that is acceptable.
