Does anyone know if the CFS has spare appliances on standby not belonging to any particular station? :?

I know theres a 24 in region4 - labelled as "region 4 24"

im pretty sure there are a few spares round the place...

24P

Also believe region 3 has a spare. The region 2 appliance is ex Kadina 34 soon to be re-named Region Two 34

the region 5, 24 is based at the Naracoorte fire station it was the old beachport appliances is in need of some small work on it. It was part of a  strike team to the edenhope fire two weeks ago and did a good job....

Mclaren Vale were running around in Athelstones old 34 the other week but the stickers had come off and the appliance read THE STONE 34 it took me a while and a few questions as to where The Stone brigade was

Region Three used to have a spare, housed at Jervois where they used it as a second appliance.

It was barely roadworthy and an operational nightmare. It was scrapped.

The old Bunbury unit went to Tintinara when they closed down. I think it may be a "spare" - we did borrow it when we had an appliance down for a week but that's a fair while ago now. Nothing was offered to us when we were down an appliance for nearly a week recently.
There's a difference between genius and stupidity -- genius has it's limits.

It is sad nothing is 'offered' anymore Kat, we actually have to do the groud work and chase things up ourselves.

I guess housing a spare in a region could be an issue - however with the number that are sitting out north that have been decommissioned it would be nice to se a few maintained - for those occasions when an appliance is off line - maybe they could be housed at the majot repairing/manufacturing areas - i.e. Moores and mfs engineering - drop one off for repair pick up a spare. Just needs someone to take responsability for them

Why not house them at the region H/Q if there is room or better still in a station that has the room dont leave them out in the rain...

Coz Blinky not many Regional HQ's have secure facilities like R5 and not many brigades/groups have spare bays unlike the 27 at Naracoorte  lol - I'm sure someone, some where may pick up on this and again start the ball rolling

We've got room for 2 spares, we'll house them especially if they make the old Eden Pumper a spare :-D

eden pumper is going to become  a BWC on an island???

rescue5271

So any new spares in regions yet??? the region 5 spare has come back and is sitting in the region 5 yard, hope that they put it somewhere soon before it gets too rusrty...

medevac

havent heard of any but sounds like mawson group could use one at the moment... with two 34s out of action. good for them to have understanding resources nearby willing to lend a truck for a while

rescue5271

may be region one should have a spare pumper and a 34...

medevac

mmm would be good, i reckon theres a few appliances coming offline that are still in good shape, i guess the thing is, do they go out and buy a brand new appliance purely to be a spare?

considerign the reason half these appliances come offline is because they are outdated, or passed the use by

rescue5271

Well if they buy a new type two for Naracoorte they could use our pumper as a state spare now that would be great...

medevac

naracoorte pumper is still is reasonably good condition i thought>?
how old is she?

Alan (Big Al)

Wouldn't mind one down at Goolwa with the growth we've got going on at the moment, let alone homes in the town and Hindmarsh Island, two new huge nursing homes and with the extension of the industrial estate we will have the biggest on the south coast..... But i won't be holding my breath thats for sure.

Naracoorte pumper is coming up to 8 years old so would make a good state spare, may be you guys should start the ball rolling and see what can be done,,,,,,

Have to disagree Bill that truck is too godd to sit around as a spare. They should have kept Eden Pumper as a spare heavy pumper. Would save brigades like Mt Barker having to use 1980 model IH ACCO pumper from MFS. Apparently it is no good anyway. We used some of these ACCOs at the Angle Park training centre and they are unreliable. They are ok for training but not to use operationally. CFS shoudl have their own ready spares.

Was at N.E Isuzu the other day with our 34 and sitting out in the boneyard was Eden Pumper with all the locker doors up letting in the rain....what a waste.

At the Virginia floods last year they sent all the MFS recruits up to Two Wells to fill sandbags and it was a sight for the older generation, 5 or so old Acco's all lined up that looked like they should have been completely retired eon's ago. :-D
