Ammusing pager message.
« on: December 15, 2005, 09:37:15 AM »
I forgot to copy the message before i refreshed the GRN pager site, but...

Did anyone else see the message: Respond Animal Rescue.... Koala stuck in tree (in back yard)

I had to read it a couple of times, and am still chuckling about the implications. If it was stuck on a road I could understand the concern..... but in a tree!!!! lol

There Are Some Funny Pieces Of Information That Get Sent Out.

I Can't Believe How Many Koala Jobs There Are, Last One I Saw It Was A Koala On Marion Road.

Responded to one only the other day.  Magpie stuck in tree.  First there was the speeding, then the dangerous driving, then the wear and tear to the vehicle etc - and that was just getting to the station.

In all seriousness though, the bird WAS stuck, by its legs it would seem, and in the grounds of a Primary School, so lots of distressed kids looking on.  Just to top if off, we couldn't reach the damn thing - beyond the reach of the ladder.  Even tried to conjure up a cherry picker - but no other agency seemed prepared to assist.  Eventually hooked it with a broom/ceiling hook and it escaped.  The kids were impressed, if no-one else.

We don't have a combi broom/celing hook..  Might need to look into those, they sound a treat....

For information, the Koala stuck in tree was indeed a koala up a tree... I can't work out if the amusement is worth more than the waste of resources and time...

Believe this is against CFS policy due to the problems with health related matters.  !! ??

The water carting is actually filling up a tank which the local Brigade uses to fill appliances. A member of the public turned on the tap and let it all run out.

Because the tank is on private property and the owners actually asked us to refill the tank (which the CFS use and also the landowner(s)) and as a good gesture from those landowners they are willing to give a donation the the CFS as they have had many fires on that particular property.
Adam.
Finished justifying!

No probs mate,
It is against policy to cart water for drinking or for stock (cattle), but carting water from a lake to a tank for firefighting purposes isn't.  It's a bit like filling a floating collar dam for use at an incident.

This one I like from today. How much embarrassment and stirring could you do to the person who bogged the vehicle.
