Recruitment 2016
« on: April 04, 2016, 08:13:48 PM »
Hello friends,

Thought I would start a new thread for sharing updates and news regarding the potential for a recruitment drive this year.

The SAMFS website has had it's full time firefighter section updated as of today. No indcation of a recruitment; but a reiteration of some previously mentioned information - that they're encouraging gender and cultural diversity.

No known details for any dates as of yet. But rumour has it (a familiar term), winter or spring could see a new drive occurring. Depends on the powers that be working out their personnel requirements I guess.

Hope you're all well, and keeping fit!
All the best.
Jason

New PID is out. Well I'd be guessing thousands of applications in this time having only needing class C to apply now.

If it's anything like Airservices Australia (which even the website layout for recruitment even looks similar now) then yes, probably via online.

I doubt it will be online testing. Too easy to cheat without supervised test later in process like other states do

Applied.

Quite different application setup from last time. This is my second time round and since you don't need a truck license anymore I'm curious as to how many applications they're actually going to get.

If anyone here has any previous experience applying, what has been the average time between your initial application and progression to the next stage (I'm guessing 2-4 weeks?).
Also for successful applicants, can anyone elaborate on how long it took from initial application through to being accepted?

First time applicant here :) Have submitted my online application, and am now stressing that I've missed something... It seemed way too easy!!
At what point do you submit a resume? It seems like they know absolutely nothing about me at this point, besides my personal details and whether or not I volunteer for a community organisation.
Have I missed anything??

You want them to look at 2000 resumes? They will find out what they need to know from personality profiling and at interview.

Thank you for your response Ferret.

I didn't necessarily expect them to sort through 2000 resumes, I just thought they may have some means of weeding out some applicants at this initial stage. It doesn't seem like they have much information in order to do that.

I was also concerned that I may have missed something after talking to past successful applicants about their more thorough initial application, and then reading this in the most recent blog post on firerecruitmentaustralia.com.au:
2016-2017 SAMFS Recruitment
"It starts off with the online application just like any other fire service. At this stage, make sure to have your resume, IDs and documents ready when you sit and process your application online."

It appears they are doing things a little differently this year.

Maybe the change is too get more of their target groups through the process. And as for the firerecruitmentaustralia goes I'm pretty sure he has no more info then can be found on the websites. I

Seems a lot easier to apply this year than the past few. Interesting to see that they are going to run the Aptitude and Personality test first. This thread has been much quieter than last recruitment. Good luck to anyone who is applying!

was just about to ask this question, i haven't.
I do have to wonder if i stand much of a chance this time around when i don't fit into a targeted group.

As for the process this time around:
It would make sense that they run the profiling and aptitude first (rather than the pat 1) so they don't have to watch 2000 people run.

The profiling thins the group much faster than few who fail pat 1

Yeah it does make sense to knock out a large number of people. I wonder how many are going to apply? I'm still waiting on my payment e-mail.

The personality profiling generally rules out about half the applicants. But i think the SAMFS can ask the testing provider to target certain types of personalities
