I would like the pay scales of career CFS staff to be inline with their interstate coleauges, without it we are constantly loosing the best staff interstate and ending up with dissatisfied, unmotivated paid emergency service personel.
I would also recommend that a bit of the dead wood be cleaned out.....like yesterday!

Cheers Jaff

I think you'll find that CFS staff are a part of the PSA. When i worked for the CFS the UFU would not have us. I dont know the reasoning behind it though.

But yes. Some wage parity for CFS/SES staff versus MFS staff would be nice and would mean a little bit more staff retention there.

I would also beg him to consider the fact that the CFS covers huge urban risks statewide and is critically under resourced and trained for this risk. Same old story there.

Another one i would like to see is actually enforcing CFS vols to follow SOPs for a nice change.

Well the staff that I am talking about are in the UFU and work in regional offices..

So getting back on topic, I would ask him what does he think of CFS now that he has had time to check us out, and what does he feel he can do for CFS with out too much interference from the Polly's

back to the topic.....

What would i mention to the Chief......

How about....."Where the bluddy helll are you??.....a bit of visibility might be nice. One of Euan's great strengths and a pillar of the support that he garnered, was the amount of time he spent with those of us at the front (or back depending on your perspective).

The new bloke....well, he's rapidly approaching Phantom status....the ghost who walks....(apparantly somewhere else)

how many Brigade meetings? The top 10 Brigades in terms of workload are all withing 30 mins or so of his office....wouldnt have been too hard to stop by for 10 mins would it? In fact he would have driven passed some to get a Regional gab-feast.

Actions define the Leader....hopefully it's just a slow start

I think you will find that its a look and see what he has gotten himself into phase....I have heard he isn't happy with the state of the urban fleet, pumping wise etc...but yes, actions speak louder than words.

I would tell him I don't want to be in the CFS. But I am part of my local volunteer fire brigade to protect my loved ones. The CFS is so much of a joke that I don't associate with the name.

My crews are under trained, under resourced and pretty much fed up.

Well said.

It would be nice to have some resources put into the urban side of the CFS.  Having more training positions would be a good start, (so BA can be a standard qualification rather than a luxury), but ideally I'd like to see better equipment (especially) for busy urban brigades.

If we were able to get the basic, minimum urban and rescue kit rolled out, that would make me a very happy man.

The "Country" Part of the CFS seems to be going rather well, its just the "Fire Service" part that isn't so much...
To think they employed me as a drooling retard...

Another thought re; what i would suggest.

Change the name, as our current one misrepresents what we do 70% of the time.

That'd cause some controversy though.

Merge the two services.

Start with a new CEO.

Two Chief Commanders (the current CO's for both services), one responsible for Greater Adelaide, the other for South Australia.  *Note, no mention of the words urban or rural.

And then create a structure from there.

And replace the flippant Volunteer mag with a whole of fire service magazine reporting the real news for fire fighters, so that Adelaide Metro can understand what goes on outside, vice versa.

Given that :

1. the function of a departmental CEO is to apply the will of the Parliament to
the department as expressed by the responsible Minister ... (not the will of the
employees/volunteers who actually staff the department)     and

2. our responsible minister now is Kevin Foley, who has a rep as a bully, but
seems to be the only pollie who speaks straight english rather than spin, and
has already stated "find savings"...   and

3. The example set by the Keith Hospital protesters who believe that funding
running costs by raiding employee super contributions & long service
entitlements is not a morally acceptable funding model.

Methinks Mr Nettleton is in for an interesting ride. As are we.

Word back from recent Group meeting/s is that he isn't particularly interested
in meeting people further down the chain of command - like Group & Deputy Group
Officers. Might simply be a case of Generals command brigadiers, who command
colonels, who command majors, who command captains, etc, etc.. but generals like
to know which majors are 'trustworthy', and which are 'difficult'...

Anyway, 'tis early days yet. We watch. We wait. We see.

Zippy's idea of one fire service mag has possible merit. We get to see the
permo's issues. They get to see ours. Saves a few bob, and opportunities perhaps
for UFU & CFSVA to find more common ground?

May be each region via the VFBA should invite him to a forum open floor and let him know you issues... Yes its early days yet and i guess at the moment he onlt wants to meet those who run groups and hear their problems which he has been doing...
