NPWS summer crews

Have the NPWS Summer crews finished, it was interesting this summer as they would pop up all over the place! I am gathering SOC would notify them of jobs and if it was near a park they would pop up, we had them at several fires this year.
Anyone else worked with them?

Went to one small grass/pine needle fire with them in blackwood forest reserve (hawthorndene), we rocked up, put it out, and about 20 mins later they got there and we handed over mopping up ops to them... not too much interaction

A few years ago - I was first arrival at a going scrub fire in a national park. The NPWS crews happened to be on route to do training and arrived within minutes of us. Everyone worked very well together. The NPWS Lt. placed his crews under CFS command and away we went. Worked great!

They had about five NPWS 14 units at the job.

CFS has an obligation to notify NPWS of any fire in or adjoining their parks, including the dispatch of NPWS crews.

They are a great resource, although not always there for the initial attack, as they are paid they are there to do the mop up and patrolling to let us get home, back to work or to get a life.

Great cooperation is probaly because many of them are already CFS members. Further as registered CFS brigades the NPWSA crews will fit into any operations.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.

There were NPWS appliances at the recent scrubby at Mylor, so they were still working 2 weeks ago...

Just for info, national parks summer crews started back at work on tuesday the 4th. They are starting by setting up all the 14's and will be doing over 30 large burns this season so i expect we will be called on a number of times to assist with the larger one's.
