Just in at Wakefield Street MFS HQ (Station 20) and got to see what looks to be the new replacement for 204. Looks to have the same buildup on the back as current, including the Palfinger Crane, but with a new Scania Cab/Chassis. Only new addition is a winch on the front.

It would be nice if the CFS could run similar Rescues!

Yeah not a bad bus that! Built by the workshops, crane is off the old 204 spare. Has been around for a while, just not on the run.

I think for the cost CFS could build half a dozen Canter rescue's, so it would never happen.

I think the crane is an interesting add on for that appliance. I believe it is from the old rescue tender with the pod system where they could transfer a pod to the ground. Don't know how much it gets used, but have only heard of it once with a patient removal from a balcony on a 2 storey house at Seaview Down recently.

I don't think any other fire services in oz have a crane on there heavy rescue tenders.

The crane and pod configuration have come from the 'old' 204.
The crane has been used a number of times to retrieve vehicles and other items and I also believe a few times to assist in stabilisation (although not sure how you would feel working in car with that style of stabilisation James???)
WAFB did have similar and they are also used O/S - but for a variety of different reasons - in Europe they seam to have a better pod set up - from RCR to Hazmat, to Medical to water recovery, to salvage - probally the precursor to what MFS are doing with the roll on roll off.

I think that's why they have now gone to a fixed body on both 204's, the Volvo was rebuilt with a fixed body, the Scania also has a fixed body. The POD system seems to be developing.
I have also seen the crane used several times.

Awesome truck.

Have seen the crane stabalise a car at a rescue before, gets used a fair bit.

Got a bit of a low down on the truck:

Moore did the Build up, MFS workshops did the fit out. Some of the panels are now lifting as they were put on with double sided 3M sticky tape! True Story no bull! Apparently using the sticky tape is what fire appliance manufacturer is europe have been doing for years!

Is this the new or the old one, as I have noticed the older one missing some bits.

I could have sworn SAMFS workshops did the whole body on the new one as I dropped in a few times in the early stages and they were doing it.

Well Moore's must have done just the basic shell, as when I saw it, it was unpainted, had no roller doors fitted and was sitting on blocks of wood on the chassis in the workshops, and it took ages, I reckon the truck itself would be nearly 2 years old!

By the looks of the two or three new MF S appliances I've seen I think they're fitting additional airconditioning unit to the roof like you can see on 204. I love better a/c's in some of our vehicles, they are currently good, but don't cut the mustard on hotter days!

A bit of news for an old thread, but....

Moore Engineering manufactured the first vehicle on the volvo, also manufactured the body of the second vehicle on the scania. Workshops did the fit out, Skilled did the electrical and painting.

Moore Eng used 3M tape for the panels - it is a tried and tested method of manufacture, some of the panels lifted. Combination of problems, but it was re worked and seems fine now.

Moore Eng have also used a glue, this is common in vehicle manufacture - cars. It also works well.

Very nice trucks, it just goes to show that moores can make an excellent product when given the right direction and money, unfortunatly alot of the complaints about trucks coming out of moores is because of a lack of funds and c.f.s trying to squeeze too much out of them.
