Don't know where you can buy them from. Mine was a present from Region HQ at a recent seminar. I'd ask them.

Each group was given enough caps last year for all members...May be CFS could do it again for all the new members who joinned and those that missed out????

This is interesting, because I know that Lofty Group did not ever receive any caps, so I am not sure why everyone thinks everyone got a cap.

NOWA Fire and Rescue at Virginia has some. Speak to Matt Dragonoff there, he might be able to help. Sorry I dont know the telephone or an email address for him, but the location of the shop is 4 Brady street Virginia. (not far from Virginia station)

If your group / brigade did not get the caps go talk to the region and ask them where they went...

From what i was told the group had to purchase them.  Some groups chose not to as the hats did not meet OHS standards or didnt want to spend the money.

I believe they were from Stewart & Heaton.

For information Stewart & Heaton are the official contractor for these caps.294 left!

PS Noone should be doing traffic control with a baseball cap on,its contrary to SOP's...it isnt going to save your skull like a helmet is

Well if its agains SOP's to wear a cap when doing traffic control I want a cement bunker to sit in. Drivers out there dont give a toss! Helmet or no helmet it isnt going to matter when someone is looking the other way doing over 100km's aiming straight at you!!!!

Yep totally agree a helmet isn't worth jack! And the cops (gurus of traffic control ) don't wear helmets. Its just as stupid as wearing Hiviz vest with our new pattern overalls. When we are doing RCR callout and the threat of head injury is reduced to an acceptable level(no extraction, nothing going to fall down)off comes my helmet & on goes my baseball cap (ours are blue and look cool) & I order my guys to do the same. Some times we make lives hard for our selves just for the hell of it (and I work in OHS in my payed job before anyone gets on that band wagon). People really need to stop & think! cheers

SA Firey, go read your helmet policy. The only times when you are required to wear a helmet is when there is a danger from falling objects. Its perfectly allowable to wear a soft hat during traffic control.

What do we adhere to, SOP's or helmet policy. Personally i'll run with SOP's. Can someone kindly post the policy in this thread.

In the hierarchy of things policy always outways a SOP. SOP's are the nuts & bolts of how to apply the policy if it is in conflict with the policy then it needs to be reviewed. As was said previously PPE is only required when their is a risk. I talked to a local CFS guy and he said they don't wear helmets when doing traffic - he mentioned the same policy. However I can't find either document.
cheers

I know its off topic but can you please refer me to the SOP regarding traffic control.  I have consulted the SOP's and can find no reference to doing traffic control.  Thanks :-)

There is a little bit in the COSO's re traffic control (but not much).

I don't have the COSO number, as the book is at the station, and I'm not.....

Have a look at the COSO's.
