yeh i thourt they would have sent it. they have sent similar msges in the past.
i think it just lets brigades/units know- (even though they can look out the window and see the wind )

Yes I agree with you there Adam,having said that region five did send out a page....mind you it was blowing well before we got the page...

I'm more along the lines of to let us know the weather is coming, not when it's hit. What's the use of a page when the weather is already here. Yes, i can look out the window, but it's all too late then.
Anyway just thought we should be making more use of this fantatic resource.

I believe the weather warnings are issued to SES volunteers in specific areas when the Bureau of Meterology advises that it is a high probability of the weather reaching the ground . Thus the high risk of storm damage to buildings.

Some Units will then have volunteers on active standby at the LHQ's so that callout response is quicker.

Trees snap in any weather (incl no wind days), so alerts for this risk is constant. For example, the Adelaide hills area yesterday & last night. The pager would be activated every day if they wanted to warn volunteers of this risk.

CFS heirarchy receive the pager message when a 'severe weather alert' is issued. It is up to them to decide if they wish to disturb the volunteers.

I don't know many volunteers who can predict how windy its going to be at what time and where, hours before it happens though

Yeah, and I want to know the Barametric pressure and what the tide will be doing..

A good firefighter knows how good pre-planning can be Dez.. Its alot more involved than just "looking out the window"..

Barametric pressure will be up or down and the tide will be in/out or dodge.

he he okay, considering wat weather today and using averages the barametric pressure will be round 760 mark, and the tide, should be coming in (in theory) but hey anyone can prove me wrong on that, as i do live in the country not on the beach. and still going with wat i said b4 16, wind and cloud at 1500hrs.

haha,   but is it my job to be the one pre-planning right this second...while im not at a job?   no lol....and thats why im chilling a relaxing on a early saturday morning

You comment re: not planning unless your at a job..- Well heck, don't be anywhere near me when its the middle of January! I want someone who knows a bit about what to expect that day! At 8am when its already passing 30 degrees, hot northerly winds gusting at around 50/60kmh are starting to come through the gully's and the R/H is 0% with an FDI of 105.. - When the pager drops its going to be too bl00dy late! .. Pre planning or the information regarding weather and what its going to be doing can be crucial. So never just say

I agree with you one hundred and fiftey percent RescueHazmat. A good firefighter is able to use their knowledge to work out , to a certain degree, what could happen if a job was to happen in a given weather situation, or even the type of job to expect. Ie. wet weather- expect vehicle accidents to occur as somepeople dont drive to conditions. Or, in the middle of summer when, as you said it is 8am and passing 30 degrees- expect a rural type job, grasss, scrub or forest, and expect it to be filtered hard to control.

Most jobs, summer expecially, when the pager drops, the time for pre planing is gone.
