Biggest Station?
« on: May 09, 2007, 11:46:47 AM »
Who has the biggest CFS station in the state?

Yankalilla Station / Southern Fleurieu Base?
Salisbury Station?
Port Elliot?

What's your thoughts?

Kingston's station is quite large..but yes port elliot would have to be pretty close to the largest station.

are you just talking about truck bay etc?? Salisbury could take 6 trucks in bay plus a couple of cars and then has multiple large sheds out the back also.

A lot of these stations are so big because they are joint SES facilities, question was which is the biggest CFS station. This being the case it would rule out places like Kingston, Ceduna etc.

Next question, who has the best looking largest CFS station as Salisbury's looks horrible as its an old crash repair place. Sort of fits right in with the whole northern pay out thing.

I'm not to worry what they look on the outside, can look like a big tin shed but as long as CFS fits out the stations with decent facilities. The CFS has had budget struggles just maintaining what they have taken over since ESAU came along. I don't think the State Government bean counters realised how big the service was with its infrastructure that they would be relieving councils from.

I wonder how some station's that struggled before the change if they are better of now?

I know some stations that belonged to a decent size council and the only brigade in that council zone feel that they are slightly worse of now with the god in the coffers.

Just something to throw in the mix!

SES have the same issues, Especially in the metropolitan Adelaide area.

Mate you're a tool you say Salisburys station looks horrible but in your next post you say it doesnt matter what they look like on the outside. Do you read your posts?

 :-D

May look nice, but not all that practical when it comes to modifications to suit the larger modern appliances.  Mega dollars, just to add a couple of feet on the front.  Almost as much as building an entire colourbond station.

Salisbury's may not be the prettiest, but I bet there's a shite load more room inside it.

I agree, though, the brick facade looks good, just wish there was more for-thought put into it.

Hey 24P,

You missed my point a shed looks fine if its new and painted as does a brick building. Plus its fitted out nicely in the inside which i was adding is more important.

Salisbury should have remained a crash repair business as its right in the middle of MFS and costs Para Group/ Region 2 a heap in rent as CFS dont own it.

That should get you fired up!

Well CFS decided to go down the path of renting and not building new. So you cant really blame the brigade for that decision can you. They have just rolled with the punches and remained as a strong brigade despite people like you mocking them.

I would take salisbury station over some of these new sheds being built any day. It has a good location, great facilities and has plenty of room for equipment and even group resources. I would suggest that para group arnt wasting any money on the rent as it houses a brigade doing on average 350-400 jobs a year as well as storing group resources such as appliance's, parts etc.

Well if they like the station who cares what we think, sure it looks funny from the outside and I guess one day i will get to see the inside of the station, would like to see flashing lights out the front so the public know that the brigade is turning out of that station.....

At the end of the day its not about how big or small our stations are, its about the quality of our service delivery to the community, and they dont care if its a red or white truckthat turns up.

Well said Sa Firey. I agree with your statement. As one of my collegues who lives in my brigades response area said one day, "as long as there is some one there to help save my house if I need them, I dont give a damn if it is red or white trucks, paid or vollunteer."

Contradiction.. (Thanks to dictionary.com) (1)direct opposition between things compared; inconsistency.
