Scrub Fire - Bridgewater
« on: March 21, 2007, 03:54:45 PM »
Gday,

Seems to be a decent fire going just south of Bridgewater.  Not familiar with the area but according to the map it looks like impacting on the south side of bridgewater.

Lofty, Heysen, Onkaparinga, Sturt groups committed.

Should have stopped for pics!! *sigh* You know, if I'd have pulled over when I first saw the smoke plume it would have fizzled into nothing - its like hanging out your washing and being guaranteed rain  :-P

Lets hope they get it under control. There is barely a breath of wind up here, but plenty of dry fuel.

5:30pm update

Firefighters are still attempting to contain this fire.

Firefighters have undertaken asset protection in the vicinity of Wattle Street and Oratava Avenue.

CFS is about to commence a backburn in the vicinity of Wattle Street. This backburn is expected to generate a significant amount of smoke.

Currently the Strathalbyn Road is closed between Cave Avenue and Stock Road.

This will shortly be extended from the Cave Avenue end back to the Mount Barker Road turn off. This traffic will be diverted back onto the Freeway.

All roads to the south of Osterley Street (into the back of the reserve) hae been closed.

At the Stock Road end of the fire alternative routes are Longwood Road and Leslie Creek Road.

I seen a page near the start where the OIC was asking for a pumper strike team.  Maybe that is why Burnside Pumper responded?

Bridgewater Fire ContainedMedia Release
21:10 PM 21 March 2007

Firefighters from the SA Country Fire Service (CFS), Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH) have contained the fire burning at Bridgewater in the Adelaide Hills.

The fire burnt around 21 hectares and was reported to CFS around 3:00pm this afternoon.

More than 280 firefighters in 35 appliances attended to the fire.

Two fixed winged water bombers and the Adelaide Bank Rescue Helicopter supported firefighters.

The fire burnt a mix of scrub and grass and access to some areas was difficult due to the steep terrain.

Firefighters undertook a backburn in the Wattle Street area to assist in consolidating a control line.

A number of homes were threatened in this area.

Firefighters will remain on the fireground overnight blacking out and mopping up.

The cause is being investigated.
