2 trucks vs Stobie on South Rd
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:17:09 AM »
I believe this inicdent caused a brief power blackout/surge through to the airport area. My workplace at Lockleys lost power briefly before the UPS/Generator kicked in and a client at the airport lost power which caused a server/desktops to shutdown.

Interesting that ETSA website http://www.etsautilities.com.au/centric/customers/power_interruptions_current.jsp? has been updated to indicate repairs will not be completed until 23/11/10 12:00 AM

From: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/truck-brings-down-power-lines-at-south-road-ridleyton/story-e6frea83-1225958387004

TRAFFIC on South Rd is likely to blocked for several hours after a truck brought down high-power electrical lines at Ridleyton this morning.

The road is closed between Torrens Rd and Port Rd because about 200m of power line is lying across the road and on at least two buildings.

The truck clipped a power pole about 10.30am which caused brought down the lines and caused two other power poles to bend.

One pole fell to the ground in a vacant block between two houses.

Nobody was injured but the power lines ignited a small grass fire, which is now extinguished.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction and reduced speed limits will be in place until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

"Motorists are urged to avoid the area completely so as to ease congestion," a police spokesman said.

The AdelaideNow website article was updated later in the day. The second accident was not written up when I first looked.     ^^^

Yes two truck vs stobie poles we couldn't believe it either!!! :-o

I was onscene at the first one prior to MFS arrival. Prospect 371 was first arrival followed by 204 and then 202. The heavy rescue pod was stop called as there were no persons trapped, although one very embarassed truck driver.

It was a "Murphys" truck which the tipper section had clipped the pole and brought down all the high voltage and low voltage and also about a dozen services to local businesses and houses. The pole came down on a vacant block in between two businesses and started a grass fire.

The photos you see on the Adelaide Now website were taken by me.

In the second incident, a Gourmet Poultry truck clipped a pole on the western side of Goodwood Rd opposite Kennards Hire, and brought down power lines across both directions making it impassable to high vehicles.

Traffic on Goodwood Rd was closed and diverted.
