Sounds a bit like a hoax.

Maybe they should ban smoking in public as well.  (this has happened in melbourne somewhere i think?)

What about Skin? and stop the pedofiles checking out kids. Lets go back to the 1900's when indecent exposure was as little as showing your ankles!

How about banning ugly people from the streets?

ITS ALL CRAP!

Is this serious SA Firey or is it just the media stirring the pot as usual?

Is there an actual bill before parlement?

It was apparently a suggestion from someone in / to a working party in Federal Parliament.....the info regarding a ban came out of an article in one of the Sydeny papers...while I haven't been able to hold of the full article, it is in the context of trying to stop paedophiles & the like from taking photos of people in public areas, that the shouldn't be.......

And as for the working party, it is simply looking at suggestions / options etc regarding that issue, before passing their recommendations to Parliament...so nothing is set in concrete....no bills before Parliament...

i cant imagine anything such as a ban on public photography would ever happen...

would have a huge impact, and just doesnt make that much sense.

Might as well put a sign at the airports saying tourists not welcome.

I can understand a ban in toilets etc possibly even swimming pools but not in the general public.

For the few bad apples there may be its not worth killing everyone elses rights.

I think the issue is more about your rights to your own image - if you take a photo of someone, you really should ask to use that image if its obvious who it is. Photographers code of practice. Ethics. I can't imagine a ban on all public photography, but I can see you being able to sue over the indiscrimate use of your own image without your permission (or that of children without guardian's permission).

Well you shouldnt have to ask someone to take their picture as such - try asking thousands of people at the MCG if you can include them in your photo  :-D

But yes to publish it then you should need their permission, as you said blue if it is obvious who that person is.

But really society needs to grow up.....
