Danger passes after Autopro store in Clare faced chemical explosion

THE Country Fire Service warned people in the Clare Valley to stay indoors while smoke from a building fire passed.

Police had set up a 500m exclusion zone around the Autopro store in Clare amid fears of a chemical explosion on Monday night.

A Country Fire Service spokesperson said nine appliances and 60 CFS volunteers were sent to the fire at Main North Rd which began about 6.00pm.

The smoke from the fire was expected to be present in the region for several hours.

CFS Commander, John Hutchins said residents should not be concerned by the smoke.

"Residents in the area are advised to close doors and windows until the smoke passes," he said.

"Those travelling in the area should exercise caution as smoke may reduce visibility."

He also advised people with respiratory problems to stay inside until the smoke has passed.

It is also feared there may be damage to a neighboring car showroom.

Traffic along Main North Rd was affected for several hours.

Fire cause investigators were at the scene.
