Guys once again, good on the Burnside crew, If they are able to knock back a type 2 and then plan what they want and then order the vechile. Why not.
I know next time i'm in town i will be talking with Stef and going on down for a guided tour.

We unfortunately have a type 2, Few issues with it. But the key here did not have a say.

Once again burnside Well done.

Burnside boys it looks good. but what ever happened to the Millicent / Bridgewater (i think) (Built by Skilled in Vic) style Hino style pumpers.Hp and Lp stages on pump 750gpm Quad 64mm inlets, Quad 64mm outlets and just in case a 125mm storz inlet. Add another hose reel and you have a useful truck.

All in look good, need to see it stowed and used in anger.

Guys my thoughts, curtains would be a pain in normal curcumstances,(a couple have already said this) yep you cant get through a cargo barrier, generally nobody in the back anyway. They do have a specific burn over drill for command cars that involves getting down low under the woolen blankets that are kept in command cars.

honestly....why should they....u guys cant sort out ur own Group, then put up with it. No-one is gonna accept an imposed solution from Region, stand up for urselves and take responsibility....and if it isnt getting up time after time....then its because enough other people think it works....and maybe ur on the wrong side - thats the thing about a democracy.. Misterteddy thanks for your thoughts.

Try as we do, Stand up as we do, fight for some basic standards as we do, follow SOP as we do, and continue to be overrun by the group.
Half the group follow as this is all they want, they are farmers interested in protecting there own patch and not interested once it reaches their fence. Brigades that only attend the AGM every year, They dont even train. somebody may drive the truck from time to time, want a hand in a close by area and they dont even respond to page.
When you have this attitude out weighing the urban/ Rural brigades whats the answer. Become marked and tagged as a stirrer as we have. and all because we want to be able to develope our officers. Give them a go at running a job.
Where ever you are must be nice.

Yep the pecking order works (seen it for my own eye's)You know theres trouble in the camp when it occurs. to be fair, one, has been trying to make changes.
This one pretty much has the support now of nearly half of the group, that ain't enough so the circus go's on.
As for the region, I have seen three regional commanders in the full time role, all of whom have said they would sort it out. The circus go's on. Region couldn't even sort out two kindy kids fighting over fruit.

The groupies are not ment to go to any fire/incident that is under a second alarm and at all times the local brigade is still in charge of the job. our groupies will only roll to second alarm and up but will mann the base for a single brigade who has a job. works ok here...

I Agree Bill re the Groupies are not meant to attend fires etc under a second alarm and that the local brigade is in charge, but as you know within your region most groups work differently.
ie we have up to 3 groupies attend a single brigade response and almost always they will take command at every job they attend, thus not giving the local brigades a chance to develop skills etc.
No wonder, when the situation arises and no group people can attend it can be a bit chaotic and disjointed. rolleyes

Bill one thinks you have been spoilt, that will change with the right person in the job.
You all think you have problems,Biggest group in the state. try five, 1 GO and 4 DGO's who turn up to whatever they like. Have tried to have them voted out (no luck so far)Issue is brigades are mostly farmers and have there machinery serviced by the group officer.
have lodged complaints with the region (no luck there either). Basically told get back in box and shut up.
How the hell do you fix that.

Maybe i just too old school, But why would you want to show other peoples misfortune or stupidity to every body. If push came to shove you could all be held liable for what you post if you cross the wrong person, I guess CFS is just trying to protect its professional name.

Guys lets stop bagging the paid staff, if your not happy with what then doing then apply and show you can do it better. if you can do it better then the volunteers shouldn't whinge.

I have personally been tempted to apply until i found out how much was paid,didn't personally want to take a pay cut, Some of our staff thought earn 80 to 90k if they put in the time.

Evac i will be in touch, a ESO position could be of interest.

Come on guys, The Basic message is keep fit and stay safe, Take all the BS out of your posting and that is what we get.

As one of you said combustion is the same in all parts of the world, Some understand it and Some don't, The danger is still there, Extra stresses on the body, heightened chances of Heart attack or other injuries.

As for wearing seatbelts look at the dash or visor in your truck, read the safety briefs, We are required to wear seatbelts by law and still some don't. Friendly reminder don't hurt.

It's happened again, Course cancelled at Naracoorte due to lack of numbers, Couldn't get approval to get neaby brigades onto the course.

Fault for this is at group level, The course had five nominated and i know of 6 from outliying brigades who had asked to be trained. that would have made a full course.

Now Naracoorte has full complement of hazmat trained operators, Bordertown has 2, Penola has 1, Robe/ kingston have 0 and Millicent has 6.
Lets hope we dont get a big hazmat job in the south east. CFS Standard response is two hazmat brigades.

Guys

Not a 100% sure why we are actually discussing this, From what i have seen and used all the new 34s come with Stotz fittings plus adaptor to take the hose we already carry.

Now most carry 25mm for forestry, all carry 38mm and 64mm.
My thoughts 64mm for filling or suppling water to appliances. 38mm for structure fires or 25 high pressure if you have it.
25mm with waygax for forestry and deploy the NSW rural fire servie role, not these stupid forestry winders we have on our trucks.

I will teach you when i see Cam, hell of a lot easier and it can be bowled.

If you have PBI and feel the need to wear it wear it, What are they going to do if you go against a group policy which holds no water at all.

go with the state directive, It is to be used for Structure and can be used fro RCR and limited protection at Hazmat.

In the end its your life not theirs, use that is why they provided it.

Come on guys the question was grass fire from the crew deck, Camo had it right.

thats how we do it in the good old flat land, we prefer no more than 3 on the back. Just swap side if required or educate the driver to stay on the burnt ground then you dont have to swap sides.

First hose, Jet just forward of front wheel, second hose just behind that on a power cone. And yes as Camo stated we have to get of the truck too.

As for extra lockers on a 34, cant see the point defeats it purpose, get the urban /rural guys a 24.  hang on they don't produce 24's anymore just 34p's

PBI Gold is the best gear we have ever had, yes it can be hot to wear on occasions. if this is the case at every oppurtunity take off the jacket or at least open it up.
It should also be a size bigger than what you would normally think to wear, this allows for air flow. help with heat build up.

PBI also has a limited vapour barrier, Nomex does not. some HAZMAT protection.

As to wearing it, it ain't that hard, use the thumb loops, keeps the sleeves down, ensure the neck nap is up and velco attached. if you got the right size then the legs shouldn't be a problem.

if you get too hot in a structure fire, maybe you have added too much water (steam logged your gear) or is the fire beyond internal attack.

A simple page to all members across the state would have fixed the notification issue, hell they can page to tell us the mobile phone service is going to be interupted.

As for command vechiles i will back up katrina, some are controlled to the extent that volunteers do not get to use them. But there is a second option that i have used, contact the region office and request a regional vechile, i have been given one in the past or they just apply pressure to the group to provide one.

katrina there is four in your group, two in the penola area and two on the other side.they can't use all four at once.
