The issue lies in the design of the vesda system itself, more specifically the layout of the piping, the sensors sensitivites. Also the system has a day, night and workman settings which the detainees know. Thus the call outs at night.

Due to the size of the building, more specifically the open area in the middle the vesda is mandatory due to the high rate of air flow.

Wheres the like button for that last comment???

We all have our preferred way. Some prefer to use two cause they don't have confidence in their systems. Some go single cause they don't want to get tangle in ropes when trying to do a rescue.

Yeah Hilti (any other good brand) anchors and you're set to party

They'll never be compatible. Too many egos, invested interests and ideas.

Just side note. Saw STAR group doing ropes training off their tower this morning and i think they were doing litter training with one of the local RTO's...

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/firefighters-shot-at-during-siege-in-sunshine/story-e6frf7kx-1225902592428

SEVERAL shots were fired, including one at police, during an early-morning siege in Melbourne’s west today.

Firefighters were called to Second Ave, Sunshine for a factory fire while police were called to the same street for a distressed male.

Sunshine MFB senior station officer Ian Munro said firefighters were looking for the scene of the callout when they saw a man in front of the factory.

“We thought he was opening a gate,” Mr Munro said.

“He fired a shot in our presence

“I thought ‘We’re not hanging around here’.

“We did one resuscitation last night, I don’t want to start working on my own troops.”

Acting Insp Glenn Mayne said on arrival the fire brigade drove past the man and the police stopped with a view to having a conversation with him.

It was subsequently identified he was armed, likely with a rifle.

“Police disengaged, so they pulled away, and a short time later they were moving away (when) they heard a number of shots fired,’’ Insp Mayne said.

“Because of the fact there were other civilians in the street a second police vehicle had to drive back into the street with a view to moving those people away.

“At that stage a further shot was fired directly at police.’’

A 30-year-old Sunshine man was arrested and is assisting police with inquiries.

``We are very lucky that no one has been killed, lucky no one has been injured and it is good he has been arrested without any injury,’’ Insp Mayne said.

The police airwing, dog squad and special operations group were all involved in the drama which was resolved shortly before 7am.

Firefighters believe the man tried to set contents inside the factory alight.

Very true,

but say there is a rescue from heights in Adelaide,

A rope access tech, or a worker on a high building. Who should do the resuce? SES who train in it, Star cause they are the nominated asset, MFS cause they have the equipment, SAAS Spec Ops cause they have the medical background??

And dear god, no one bring up that crap show off tv

Who is the best service to undertake a rescue from heights? Sapol (star), Samfs, CFS, SES?

why would mfs be better than star vice versus.

and why would you rely on a volunteer service over a full time (cfs. vs. mfs, or ses vs. star)

....Maybe it will be MFS guys setting up private fire services for industry and events next?

Hmmm, every time I attend a building fire warden course refresher...it is run by a person who states they work for MFS and are doing this as their second job...so I think the above happened years ago.

I have heard rumblings that the fire industry are going to tell the fire service to keep their full timers out of the private industry. As many of the full timers that work in the private industry are just making themselves and then the SAMFS look bad. That and the private industry apparently doesn't see why it should struggle through, then have the part timers come in bargain basement and ruin it for everyone.

From: AAP July 24, 2010 2:09PM Increase Text Size Decrease Text Size Print Email Share Add to Digg Add to del.icio.us Add to Facebook Add to Kwoff Add to Myspace Add to Newsvine What are these? AN intoxicated teenager stole a 14-tonne fire engine and activated the emergency lights before eventually being pulled over in Sydney's Blue Mountains.

Police alleged the 16-year-old boy broke into a fire station at Lithgow and stole an Isuzu fire truck about 11.45pm on Friday.

He was pulled over a short time later by police and was breath tested, returning a positive reading of 0.045.

The teenager was issued a court attendance notice for novice range drink driving and other traffic matters.

He will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act for the offences relating to breaking into the fire station and stealing the fire truck.

Nah the one i saw was on a dual axle trailer with a massive engine strapped to it... looked to be  a big v8 diesel. 100mm in i think with 6 in/ 6 out. I did some asking around with a few mates. There are three using trailer pumps and one using an acco.
