Whilst this is from NSW it appears to have a number of similarities with the delays I have seen with responding any rescue/fire appliance to an RCR when SAAS have been responded. I can only hope that SA can get their system sorted out.

I thought Salisbury's 34 went to Owen when Salisbury received their 34P. Or have Salisbury received another 34? If so where did this 34 come from?

Is it 1 x RCR appliance plus 1 other appliance for Fire cover etc?

Or is it 1 x RCR appliance plus 1 other appliance from another brigade for Fire cover?

• All personnel (CFS or SAMFS) when operating on CFS frequencies shall do so in accordance with CFS Standard Operational Procedures (K Codes are not to be used by CFS resources).

There was asbestos signage on it earlier in the week.

Saw this one during the week in the western suburbs. Looks to have a nice finish to it. Still needed to be stowed when I saw it.
Whilst designated as a '14' it looks to be a significantly physically larger unit than the current Mitsi Canter's. Bit hard to judge without having them side by side. Hopefully will carry the weight better than the Canters.
On looks & finish I'd take one if offered.

Are these stats used for anything like funding or allocation of equipment etc?
Or are they purely for information only?

Are descrepancies between brigades figures and HQ figures the norm or the exception? Looking at my own brigades figures over the last couple of years they  differ on average between 15%-20%, always with the brigade figure higher. Are some types of calls not counted?

Noticed a couple of ex CFS appliances go through the goverment auctions in the last couple of weeks.
Prices for the Hino's varied betwwen $10k & 14k.
A Ford Trader (I assume it used to be Upper Sturt 12 - could be wrong?) went for $6,000.

Is this pretty much all that they are worth?

Whilst the response may be 'semi-appropriate' you would have to wonder about who is responded.
Saddleworth (35K's) & Riverton (45k's) both have to go through Marrabel to get to Eudunda. But Marrabel (24K's) are not responded?
Kapunda are only 27k's away and have both MFS & CFS(24P & 34) but are not responded???

I have heard from a couple of people that corruption can occur due to pagers being too close but no-one can explain why. If these pagers transmitted as well I could understand. Are you able to explain more?

Have to agree the response tone on the yellow Apollo pagers is extremely poor. It is easily missed if the pager is in a pocket or similar.
I was fortunate to use one of the first Apollo (black) pagers when they came out. The response tone on these was far more noticeable and at least as good (if not better)as the Samsungs.
Running an Apollo side by side with a Samsung there does appear to be an improvement in less scrambled messages being received.
Am a little suspicious on the power drain of the Apollo's but will reserve my opinion on this for a while longer.

When a brigade with a specialist appliance eg BWC (42), Hazmat (28) are responded via paging how do they work out what to send?
For example if Belair are responded and the pager message ends with BELR42, is this only requesting the BWC? Do they also send a general purpose appliance as well? Or should this be responded on a BELR00 message?

This is not directed at Belair as I am only using them as an example. Stirling, Bradbury, Kangarilla, Summertown etc could all have been used.

Appears that its not just isolated to my group or area....

Some GO's/DGO's seem to have a case of 'red & blue light fever'. Must attend everything. I would have thought there was enough to do in a Group role without feeling that they must attend every incident.


Jaff -'succession planning'(or lack of), probably one of the single biggest failings in the CFS currently.

Is there a standard procedure for GO's/DGO's/DO's responding to incidents?
Is one of them required to respond to each incident that a brigade is responded to in their group? Or do they choose whether they respond or not?

Some incidents I attend one will respond other times none. Its not unusual to see a Group car respond P1 past the station and be the first arrival. (tree down, RCR etc) Who then is the IC? First responder or first appliance responder?

What is the expectation or procedure?

The Eden Valley captain actually came up on air just after the page went to the SES and advised that the tree down was only a couple of hundred metre's from the CFS station and that it would be quicker for Eden Valley to be responded than the SES to come 30-40 km's. Smarter/better use of resources I think........
