Seen what i believe is the same chopper flying around kingston not long ago.....all i can say is it was going to happen sooner or later....these guys are nuts!

So's crawling into a burning bulding.. ;)

We at least have a hose to put out the fire......if they fall out of the sky, all they have is a prayer!

Well then, no need to enforce your crankyness onto others unfairly.

This site wouldn't be a firefighting site without being able to take shots at people when they screw up.

Unfairly?  Personal attacks arent supported on this site and i viewed the post in question as a personal attack....have a problem? take it up with firefrog.

Gambier Group have an ops brigade that run comms like Wattle Range, except ours cause more problems then they solve.
What, like the captain running out to jobs and putting stop calls on appliances?

Hmmm thats only one of many issues.

You may notice that the initial page went to mfs.  Hence it was probably categorised to mfs in crimson.

Perhaps there is a filter that only looks for jobs that come up with region 1.2.3.4.5.or 6 ? not sure

Yeah more than likely.  Crimson has the ability to display incidents for the MFS, reg 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or the whole lot.  CFS appliance despatched to MFS area would come under the MFS catagory.

Hey... any idea how big the samfs monitors are? and do mfs pumpers have 6 discharge or only 4?

cheers

Mostly 2 in, single nozzle. (Specs vary on exact brand and capabilities of individual Monitor.)
I think the average would be about 1000lpm though on an mfs pumper?

Last year there was something like 96 LODD's nation wide. So that number is fairly accurate.

To be honest, 1 LODD per 15,000 FIRES, although horribe, is not a figure I wouldn't expect.

Its a dangerous job!

Agreed.  I use the term loosely but firefighting in oz compared to the USA is probably pretty easy.  If you take into count the difference in structures, fatigue, traffic.

1.5million fires and about 100 firefighter deaths a year.

Im not good at maths but that is a death every 15,000 jobs?  or does my calculator tell lies?

Yeah, why can't we see Euans' personal pager messages?

Trust me...nothing worth reading.

i wonder if it isnt time to look at a "de-specced" unit for those Brigades doing less than 30 or so calls a year. Even the new 34 Units could have some of the bells and whistles forgone and a very basic Unit provided in numbers. A little bit like the original "plastic" 24 concept of the 80s.....

Yes there are brigades doing less then 30 calls a year but that doesnt mean they dont have some risks that probably rival some of the urban brigades.

Bit rough to say to these brigades "because you do less than 30 calls a year, your no longer entitled to a truck that is practical for your area."

and im sure the coroner would be delighted to hear "we werent able to save these peoples life because the CFS cut costs on our brigade due to the fact we did less than 30 calls a year"

But on the other hand i will agree with you to some extent.  Im sure there are brigades out there that have nothing but a few houses and open paddocks that dont need anything other than a real simple basic appliance.  But having said that what do you remove?

I presume all brigades should have a copy...all the Captains in my group were given a copy of it at our last Group meeting in October....

Pip

Must be a region 1 thing.  Havent seen any paper work yet.

then its time CFS played a trick theyve never done before > Supply the appropriate appliance for the risk and responses! :D

That would then bring us back to the aerial appliances in CFS thread.  :-D

Millicent look after their local airstrip.

Think region 5 are looking at training up a few other brigades due to the wide range of airstrips in the region.

Can't see mfs going into Nuri Not when CFS has 3 trucks with no manning probs, Angaston has 2 trucks 10 secs up the road and tanunda has 2 trucks and mets 10 secs down the road.

Im led to believe its not the response that is the problem, its the fact that CFS wont supply the appropriate appliances for the risk area.

Personal, yet re-produced on a forum.. Hmmm.. Logic?

meh....if they are dumb enough to broadcast their personal message on a public system that is there own fault.

This is where I disagree Cam.

Its only 'public' because people have programs like the pager feeds.. - When the person sent it, I have a feeling it only went to one person.. Hence a private message..

If (extreme case) people had a phone feed, and could listen to our calls, would it be our own fault if we said something about someone and it was put up on the nearest forum??

Soon I wont be able to go to the bathroom without it being on the next forum I log onto..

On the other hand, the system isnt designed to be used for personal messages of this type.

All Equipment discussion / Re: Auto vs Manual Transmissions
« on: October 30, 2008, 04:18:25 PM »
Fair enough...those that drive auto cars have an excuse but those who drive manual cars.....wtf?

how can you say you cant concentrate on gear changes as well as driving on the fire ground?  i mean the streets of adelaide are probably worse than any fireground.

Are we becoming that lazy that our brains cant function on 2 things at once?

As to any advantages/disadvantages........i believe an auto costs an extra $60,000 on a truck (i could be wrong as this was a 2nd hand figure), which could be spent elsewhere.  So to me any advantage is outweighed by this fact alone!
