We have it running on the eConnect PC at North Region HQ. We have occasional crashes, but there are a few things running on it (AIS, HF into OziExplorer etc) and I havent had time to really troubleshoot. I just reboot and go.

There is a channel mapping document out there that lists what aligns to what. I would assume it can be requested from the comms guys in State if needed.

They way I understand it is Onkaparinga SES has members within most of the Onka brigades while the SES truck is kept at Lobethal. So unless specific gear is needed from the SES truck they use the members located at the closer locations to respond.

As a part of the programming done to them it is possible to force a tone or leave it as user sets. It can even be programmed to have a different tone for each capcode in the pager.

Perhaps who ever manages pager programming in CFS is making a visit to the unit to untick the box for people. When looking at the software every so briefly for the SES ones, it didnt appear to be able to upload new tones (eg 'Tone 7'). But who knows..

For anyone in Adelaide that's interested, SASES will be holding their State Rescue Challenge 17 & 18 August at Angle Park. Don't forget your raincoat and covered shoes if you are attending.

Nine State Emergency Service (SES) teams from across the state will take part in the State Rescue Challenge being held at Angle Park next weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 17-18 August).

Held every second year, the challenge is a gruelling two-day competition with teams facing a number of realistic emergency situations and rescue scenarios.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the challenge on Saturday from 8am to 5pm and on Sunday from 8am to 2pm.

It will be held at the Metropolitan Fire Service's (MFS) state training facility at Gate 4, 480 Grand Junction Road, Angle Park.

SES Deputy Chief Officer Dermot Barry said the nine teams had been training hard to prepare for the event.

"The nine teams have made a massive commitment to this event, putting in many hours to hone their skills so they can respond to a variety of emergencies and ensuring people trapped in perilous situations can be quickly, efficiently and safely freed," Mr Barry said.

"The State Rescue Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for the public to come and see what the SES does on a regular basis, often in the very worst of weather, and the skills that our volunteer members have acquired through their training," he added.

Teams competing in this year's State Rescue Challenge are from both metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia.

Metropolitan Adelaide teams competing will be Metro South (based at Lynton), Western Adelaide (Netley), Eastern Suburbs (Firle), Tea Tree Gully and Edinburgh while regional South Australia teams will come from Yankalilla, Port Lincoln and Mount Barker.

There will also be a composite team comprising members from SES units at Western Adelaide and Mount Gambier.

The winning team will represent South Australia at the National Disaster Rescue Challenge in Victoria in September.

St John is a part of the Ambulance & First Aid Functional Service as listed in our State Emergency Management Plan. This means they can be called to any emergency in the state to provide first aid services and general support to SAAS.

As for some examples things such as providing a surge capacity during large incidents, supporting fire operations through med stations at staging areas and relief centres, transporting casualties, providing the initial response at a number of large events and the list goes on Im sure.

In its current form its too long for normal TV advert slots. Its aimed more for displays from what I understand. However there may be a TV version out in the future.

The IMT spent a lot of time since Monday making sure all the trucks had been detailed, had the standard stowage and all reported faults/issues repaired before the out of town trucks left. Would be interesting to know what was wrong with them upon return to home stations.

My understanding is that swiftwater training is being rolled out to all SES units that will give them to gear & knowledge to do throwbag work from dry ground. Im not sure of the status of the units in that area, but members of Onka & Sturt are doing their final bits of throwbag training tomorrow.

Noarlunga are the only unit at this stage AFAIK that have the next level of training to actually enter the water after people, as this course is run interstate.

A few more casualties are needed.. Anyone members on the board (SES or CFS) want to come and give a hand? Drop me a message.

For what it is worth the address received by the unit was incorrect and the occupent of the house we did attend was new to area and didnt know names of neighbours so we couldnt locate that way...

The new portables issued to SES allow us to select fire service talk groups, which can be a great help.. Only becomes an issue when you are trying to deal with 3 groups, our local tg and regional tg - way to many radios to carry ;)

Another good option is using the power of Twitter.

There is a website called http://incidentalert.com.au/ that will email or SMS any incidents that happen in a town(s), region(s) or anywhere in the state. This service does have a cost to use, but covers SA & Vic.

The other option is use the power of Twitter. The website above also updates incidents onto Twitter, with a different Twitter account for each region & state. You can then have Twitter SMS this message to your mobile for free if you are with Telstra. I find this works really well for finding out whats happening around the area and for what could be heading our way.

Well things have changed a lot since the 80's & even the 90's. Yes we agree there was some real scheiße that went on back then, but the unit has changed a lot. Sure there is still the odd issue, but who doesn't & they are no where near the size they used to be. For example our relationship with Heysen group as a whole has improved a remarkable lot over the last year or so whilst 'under new management', as have a number of other supposed issues with the unit. At unit level at least, the dead horses have gone.

If you are ever in the area, give us a call and come drop in one night (we train Tuesdays).

And the TDU Community Stage thats happening tomorrow with some 7000 or so cyclists on the roads from Norwood to Goolwa. Could be real interesting if anything happened.

Interesting that people are named as a response, would they be specialist skilled operators or recalls??

If you cant take them on board due to reaching membership limits, do you promote other services to them? This is a legit question and not an attempt to start a bum fight by any means. But surely getting a member of the public that is wanting to assist their community but cant because of limits could go to another organisation to fulfil this and gain skills until such time as they could join CFS.

SES is the Hazard Leader for Extreme Weather under State Emergency Management arrangements & State Legislation.

While most people think of extreme weather as storms it also includes events like heat waves, so it has the job of coordinating activities surrounding this heat event.

Most of this is done at a state level by paid staffers, who work closely with Health and other departments as required.

Funny Hahndorf had a truck out, and had crew waiting for another driver.. Bridgie was called for additional BA I beleive.. but I wasnt at the job, only going by stn log and talking to the crew.
