I think the green is good to look at who wants to look like another service some may say it it is a form of jealousy. It was recently pointed out to us that the shirt are not covered by the uniform policy and can't we worn with our ppc

So are the staff involved in pushing through their unions for more staff and better pay and conditions or is just the Volunteer association?

The unfortunate aspect is that the staff become members of the PSU and within that PS EB, CFS staff are treated with a small provision for CFS paid level officers where as the those under other awards (ASO or PO) do get paid a bit better. I only know this as I am member of the PS and consiering that the CFS has a small amount of staff that for an agency that has one award they do get over looked in the EB process.

Having paid CFS would not work,CFS seem to want to be the CFA, the CFA have a long history of paid staff and even now Victoria will see one fire service in the future.

Big Bronto your reply could be seen as creating two questions. The first is what is wrong in adopting a national structure for the volunteer fire fighting based on the best working model we have. They can still be run by each state entities but a more unified approach to emergency management

The second question is that of one emergency service as you indicated allegedly occurring in Victoria within the fire service. We can all testify how hard it is to recruit, retain and then sustain membership beyond five years. This could be as  I said in an earlier post a sign of evaluation of the emergency services not a power grab as some would see it but a sign of survival. If evaluation can occur every where else in nature why can't it occur in the world of emergency services.

A CFS with paid staff not people moving paper from the in tray to the out tray is something like what I saw on the box with my kids tonight called evolution.

About time some of the dinosaurs woke up and smelt the new world. People are expecting more as BundyDear inferred that having a paid service will only compliment the volunteers by improving the service that we already deliver.

Fines urged for bushfire 'gawkers' ; Sightseers a problem near bushfires (Rhys Popovic, Port Lincoln)

Locals told to get out amid code red fire warnings A push is being made to impose a 'gawkers fine' on sightseers who hang around bushfire zones.

The Port Lincoln mayor Peter Davis has met South Australia's Premier and Opposition Leader to try to win bipartisan support for such a fine.

Firefighters battling a blaze which destroyed houses at Port Lincoln recently were hampered by sightseers who congested roads to get a closer view of the bushfire.

Mr Davis says people caught by using their mobile phone cameras at bushfire scenes should be fined hundreds of dollars.

"I've taken steps with the Premier and with [Opposition Leader] Isobel Redmond for a bipartisan policy when Parliament re-sits to immediately enforce the capacity of emergency service personnel to photograph these idiots' number plates and you'll get a 'gawkers fine'," he said.

A little bit of change over funding in the SACFS but is something that all ESO can relate to the problems of the sightseers at the incident.

I remember a CFS members telling me that there were so many people wanting to be part of the action she did not know who the driver was and who needed first aid. The incident did not occur in a city or town but on the edge of a highway out in the bush. 

So people what are are your thoughts?

have you raised this with your GO and regional commander?  what was the response?  have you spoken to your regional state volunteer telco committee rep? 

I am of the understnading the BC has followed the correct process of going through the group to region with no signs of the agreed to extra pagers to date. Maybe when they ask many of the new ones we can always say a _____ load of them.

At the moment I prefer due to the type of work that I am in getting a txt from the BC or a phone call from a Lt works for me.

I tend go for the shorts and a drill shirt as it give a proffesional look the shirt that is. As  I don't think it is necessary to go in heat stress mode as I tend to work safely. It also gives me the ability to go into a hazmat job in if worse case scenario happends. I live in a place were the average year temp is 30 degrees
