Yes no I agree a TIC for each brigade would be nice, its also wishful thinking perhaps we should rename this thread wishful thinking? Then all sorts of amazing things might happen lol....

Wipe all the current threads start afresh with the ozfire.org rule of no criticism...that might make this site worth visiting, that and/or take a leaf out of cfastream.info 's book

Whoevers personal expense this site is might be saved if u host it on something like pro boards....which is free.....

Just forward safirefighter.com to the address of the new forum or if you don't want to spare that expense set up a dynamic DNS account and web hop that to the forum..... It would be nice to start over, mostly this site consists of overdone criticism..I don't exempt my self from making that criticism...but every so often some wonderfully true things are said and they make the site bearable... This may well be time to kill this thing off I've talked to fellow volunteers about it and indeed it has been referred to as h.ell on the internet.....

Well this sounds interesting i might just input my 2cents:
1/ A helmet that has a HUD (Heads up display) that can seek out hot spots and overlay them over what we see visually onto the helmet visor....(some might refer to that as making work for ourselves) but if it helps to stop re-ignition i'd like it..it could be referred to as a more practical thermo camera...I may try and do this for a uni project one day

2/ A GPS in the truck that points us in the right direction knowing local dirt roads town names, property names and local nicknames (in some cases for non-locals)..(This is partially fancifull because who is going to log that Bob. J. Tmart also goes by the name Robbo....) and possibly a designated satellite like the sentinel satellite that tells us the size of the fire, the rate of spread of the fire, the direction of spread of the fire, the fdi at the location, predicted fire area and location of the front at the time of arrival (using real time information not shoddy weather predictions from the BOM).

3/ A giant air bag on the truck that in the event the truck tips to an unsafe angle inflates and cushions everyone...(And is soft like a pillow...)

4/ Strong light fireproof boots that are as comfortable as slippers...and easy to put on in a hurry...because ive no skin on my fingers when i finally get them on...and they loosen up after a while....

5/ Finally seeings as were on unlikely and fanciful things I'd like to suggest a new station for Hamley Bridge because they NEED a new one! Brigades that do 2 incidents a year have better stations than they do...but thats political and reserved for another thread...

Its funny being the 21st century and all you'd think we would have a far out way of stopping fires with insanely high tech stuff on it...mind you they thought we'd be driving flying cars by now..though when it comes to a big fire no amount of technology will stop it, except a man in funny clothes doing a rain dance...

So if a person rings up and says "I can see some smoke at the end of my street, and I can smell burning" you get turned out to "Smoke in area XXXX street" Commcen may not have anymore information. Sometimes the cause of smoke is not obvious at all, so "Smoke in area" is a rather acceptable reason to be paged.

Perhaps the confusion has come from "Smoke in area" being the BOMS response type, yet SOCC putting "Smoke sighting" in certain pages to certain brigades?

I still don't understand why people are having so much trouble grasping the fact that Smoke in area and Smoke sighting are the same thing. They both mean someone has seen some smoke as is unsure of its origin. Its not rocket science. If someone can see what is burning then isn't it paged as "Grass fire/Domestic fire" etc etc? YES.

Yeah mabye the smoke in area page was always a part of BOMS, I was mistaken (thought BOMS was SOC) tho SOC did page smoke sighting.

It hasn't always been that...smoke sighting was the old one i.e BOMS it was more specific....thats my opinion....my interpretation of smoke in area would be like an area is dutched out where as a smoke sighting is a visible plume.

Did Smoke in Area replace smoke sighting or is there a different one for say a plume of smoke? Because when I read smoke in area I think its just a haze....?

Why the chopping block?

Cant get crews and they don't get many calls...

there was six fires in total at eudunda last night 4 grass 1 car and a house. the house was started first then the car fire then the grass fires.

i was there with SAAS eudunda was dealing with the 6 fires when i got there and saddleworth got there about 5mins after us the house was abandoned and was a broken down car we got to leave at 130hrs and eudunda and saddleworth were still there waiting for fire cause to rock up
 

Arson? I hope not....Though it is good to see Neales Flat get a turn poor fellas are on the chopping block...!!!!

P.S: Lucky it happened at night coz the wind is real gusty!!!
