I like the idea of tablets etc in an appliance - a great resources.  However, at Sampson Flat, strike teams were sent to s specific location.  My appliance got the map book out, and navigated to where we had to go.

Other appliances had to ask for directions, as they only had a tablet (no map book) and either it was too hard to work it out, or they had no service (which was a distinct possibility)

Nah, Pip didn't miss the point, but the questions was so non specific, that I couldn't resist!!

One of the SRT appliances had a large tree branch land on the it.  It is a write off.

Luckily all of the crew on the back were sitting down, with their seat belts on, and none of them were injured....

Hate to admit it, but we got lost around Kersbrook...had to use the breadcrumbs on the GPS to find our way out!

They can't use the existing GRN or VHF's as the Vic & SA radio systems aren't compatible.

The Pumpers were funded from previous budgets - and they, I believe, have been delivered much later than originally planned.

I don't profess to know anything about the situation in Mt Barker, however, if you look at stats for CFS & MFS, you will find some full time metro MFS station who do less calls than CFS stations.  So I don't think that is an argument to base not having a MFS station there

I reckon their 24P has internal blinds fitted, so it has some burn over protection... just like lots of other appliances around the place.

And as for it's age, I'm sure it'd be on the list for a replacement... just like lots of other appliances around the same age.

Change of quarters refers to moving appliances from their home station, to another station, to cover the second station, when they are tied up on something.  Regularly see MFS appliances being moved  to other MFS stations. 

CFS called in to cover MFS stations when things get very busy (I understand that for one of the Wingfield fires, there was only one MFS appliance in a metro station - CFS were covering all of the other stations, and all of the MFS trucks were at the fire!) 

CFSRES tone is used for CFS, as it is actually a callout.


CFS (and sometime SES) crews are called to set up a helo landing site - they need to find a suitable location, nearby the location, clear it of hazards, ensure people aren't in the way, check for hazards such as powerlines, and advised the incoming chopper, provide a GPS location for the location, and, if at night, light the area for the chopper (and there are specific lighting requirements.)

They also need to liaise with the chopper in regard to thing like weather conditions / wind speed / direction etc.

Depending on where the chopper lands, relative to the incident, CFS crews may also ferry the incoming crews to the scene.

I can't see a problem with helping out your own members with things like pumping out something, rescuing animals etc.  (Although we do respond to calls from the public to rescue animals).

The question to ask is, living in a small community, if other members (non CFS) of that community asked for assistance in the tasks you talk about, would you go & help them too?  I suspect the answer would be yes.

So if you are willing to do these tasks for members of the public, why is it bad to do the same for your own members?

In my view, the tasks you have listed should be out down either as AIRS reports (such as rescuing an animal), or on the non-incident stats for other tasks - I see all those tasks as legitimate use of CFS resources

No need to abuse people for making a post - and you will find out there that some cadets do have pagers, while most don't.

Why do you say their are two appliances out of Gawler, from that message?

Looks like one from Gawler, and one probably out of Elizabeth (perhaps being change of quarters to Elizabeth, from Salisbury)

Sort had lots of appliances called, but many had delays in getting there - my brigade was called, but being a training night, we were out playing with water, and our tank was pretty much empty, and we were at the other end of our patch (the opposite end to the supposed fire!) - So we had to fill up first, and the next brigade sent.

I believe the spot fire was actually a totally unrelated fire, that had been burning for sometime - nothing to do with the CFS burn at all.

I believe Region 2 have what you are talking about - not sure if they are currently accepting members

Have a look at Ops support brigades... there are plenty of them on the urban fringe areas.

Not quite the same as riding a fire truck, but still part of CFS.
