Agree with you there Zippy. What did happen to the 2 Coulson Helitacks that were based at Brukunga early in the season?
I believe there was one Koala based at the airport, still badged as 533 I think, it was from Heliair, but I dont think it was used anywhere :-(.

At Cherry Gardens airstrip there is a small transportable building a little bigger than a shipping container, it has an A/C unit and is powered by a generator when the strip is open. There are 4 rainwater tanks behind two shipping containers not sure on tank size. In the containers one has all the hoses and related equipment, and the other has all the retardant. There is a permanent pump (at the dam) plumbed from the dam to the tanks and another pump plumbed from the tanks with the required equipment for instant set up, all built in a hinged steel box. I don't think there is anything in OZ, but I could be wrong. A few years ago we had the Canadair aircraft here, they were designed for this purpose but our reservoir's weren't big enough to take this aircraft, and if the swell was 1/2 metre or more it could not collect any water from the sea, and would have to be filled on the ground. I think they could carry 30,000litres of water but not quite sure, it was a few years ago now, but someone on here might remember.  :-D

Having done work experience there in the past, they have the equipment to tackle that sort of fire. So yes they could handle it in the beginning. But being that no. of passengers they will always need MFS, CFS, SES, SAAS, & SAPOL. There are plans in place to facilitate a response for this type of incident, someone on here could answer it better but you get the idea. MFS response will probably depleat appliances in the metro area but what can you do for this type of incident with that number of passengers.  :-)
