Closed circuit BA's have there uses and they are good at them! But they are not ideal for quick entry limited duration jobs.

Look at the initial $$$ to buy them, then maintain them, testing and recommissioning after use!

Use them a few times and you will be turned off them quick smart  :lol:

Just a few comments on the easier breathing... even with the sets that have inbuilt ice canister after a few hours of work the air is really hot to breath!

Faster deployment hmmm i would disagree, 3 checks with OCBA, to be confident with a CCBA over 10 checks would be good!

How does Open circuit BA increase CO2 buildup. Exhaled air is spent to atmosphere, so you keep breathing a normal atmosphere of air with each inhaled breath of air.

Hi after just returning from the North Murrunindi complex fires i have to say that it was handled well for the complexity of the incident, yes we did a lot of waiting around, but once tasked it was OK in my opinion...

Few things we noticed.
We took 4x portable UHFs that came in handy the whole time, especially on a back burn down a hill..
We commented that some form of communication in tent city may have helped, a white board with strike team no. then location and meeting times?
The trucks were OK, tiny pumps and minimal equipment but we knew what we had and worked with it. The comms was OK, but 2 channels for the entire complex.. hard to get a word in.
Other than that was an enjoyable experience and well worth it.

Please tell me how SAAS country vollies have a choice of doing transfers? If you are rostered on you do the case. If you are not rostered on they page until they get a crew. RFDS does not work around vollie times, they work around there own schedules. Plus in rural areas where your next ambulance is 1 hour away you don't have a choice.

RFDS send a nurse and a pilot on the plane for retrievals and if really bad a doctor will also come.

The nurse is there to organize and make sure that he the patient is stable enough for flight, and obviously monitor the patient during flight.

I run a 246t, 780xlt, ubc8T, and a 245 with austrunk.

The Austrunk is the best of course also uses a ubc 60xlt dickies for $25, 245 for $150 so for around $200 you could setup Austrunk :)

PBI gold at MVA's can be a little bit awkward in small places for the rcr operators, but if needed it offers a good blood and sweat lining.....

I was just going through the volunteer that other day and happened to notice the section on SFEC's being overviewed for brigades. Just wondering if anyone had some inside info on how this was going to be done, and if they find there are some problems (not likely "LOL"), and what there plans will be to do about these problems, i surpose get a bigger budget and completely buy Brukunga and turn it into STC?

Yeah most brigades need more than they have.... Doesn't mean that you cant try with what you have got.. We have a winery here that stores millions of litres of spirits at once, we carry over 1,000 litres of foam... It doesn't last long and once that is gone it just becomes a logistical nightmare.

Anything current that has a decent pumping capacity is normally PTO driven, and normally is 2 wheel drive, except for a few 24 URPs out there.

It is an urban truck made for urban jobs..... You replace a rural truck with one you are down a truck for rural jobs?

Fixed alarms and private alarm, well all that i can say is that the "potential" for "real" incidents is their. I don't care that people say they are only alarms and they did no real fires, but it could just happen all at once one day!

It goes the same with MVA's i think in regards to entrapments no entrapments,,, does it mean that you only do 20 extractons a year and 40 non extractions mean that you shouldn't have RCR gear???

They are good and pretty accurate.

The CFS have a registered BOM user that i assume is free for all CFS brigades to use. We use it alot and it just gives you extra info about conditions.
