SAMFS / Re: 2015 Recruitment
« on: April 18, 2015, 06:17:24 PM »
A few years ago I was successful in passing all tests with the MFS. I was measured up for uniforms as well. Turns out I didnt end up making the first drill squad but was told to wait for drill squad number 2. The second drill squad never happened.

The next year recruitment started again. I was told to re apply. I said Im on the books for 12 months, why re apply. I was told that the 12 months begins from when recruitment is officially advertised so the 12 months was up. Time to start it all over again. I never did.
Im just letting you know about the 12 month rule...cheers and good luck

I love following this recruitment thread each year. Everyone gets all excited about applying for the MFS. Everyone gets their hopes up. Lots of questions are asked, further fuelling their confidence then BAM! FAIL.

Then the whinging starts......

Victor Harbour could and should be the first chance to trial a Integrated Brigade.  (Paid and Volunteers).  Port Lincoln was a missed opportunity...

Looking at the statistics for Victor MFS, they respond to 20 grasses & a lot of alarms. Having  Pump/Rescue, 1 Pump, 1 Pump/Tank & 1 Tanker would make it an even mix to respond to a variety of jobs.

Haha You cant be serious. Combined station of paid and voluteers, yeah that would go down just fine. I can see the arguments now.

BTW Victor MFS responds to nearly 250 calls a year

The last time we had someone trapped up a tower, we put a bag of Hungry Jacks at the bottom of the tower. Eventually the person became hungry and climbed down unaided.
This way, the only person put at risk was himself.

P.S He even gave me most of his fries.

Come on boredmatrix...surely there are guys that must have been disappointed and  and felt "let down" with the MFS system over time. Just read a few of the previous posts.

I think PYRO is just stating what a lot of people who want to join the MFS think.

I was struggling to find time for my HR licence. Once again EBAY saved the day. I can even drive a semi now as well because I took advantage of the "buy now" feature.

Country Fire Service / White CFS Trucks
« on: October 21, 2007, 04:26:49 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I have just been speaking to an old "Digger" mate I know who has been in the CFS for years. We were talking about the old days and I ended up asking him "why CFS trucks are painted white? he then told me it was because white was easier to obtain than pink, which was the colour everyone wanted back then.

Did you guys know about this? Should we try and go back to this colour?

A bright pink would stand out more in the smoke, traffic etc than white

Cheers

No seriously everyone, if the government decided to pay you a "retainer" to be in the CFS, how many of you would turn it down?

and secondly,

I have read posts on this forum before that you believe the CFS is the exactly the same as the MFS except of course the MFS get paid.

Why then do a lot of people on this forum want to leave the CFS and join the "Mets", one reason only......money

(apart from the fact that MFS fires have been proven to burn a lot hotter than CFS fires)

And watch out for the CFA physical at Fiskville.....they dont tell you when you go till you get there.....10km run in under 40 minutes carrying a 20kg knapsack...in your turnout gear minus the coat :?

This has got to be a joke. 10 kms in under 40 minutes is good but in your turn out pants etc and carrying a 20 kg knapsack, I dont think so.

One of the largest incidents I have attended to date came through as a fire alarm...

No sh!t Sherlock... A lot of jobs come through as fire alarms. Why do you think buildings etc have alarms fitted!!

I am the one and only as well and as my user name suggests, I am fully involved.

Step into my world and i will show you a place of professionalism and courage.

I am one but still do the work of ten men.

I am not a firefighter I am the firefighter.

Step back and be prepared to be burned.
Step up and prepare to learn.
