Mt Barker currently have a medium pumper, and apart from being offline at the moment is more suited to the job as i believe it has more stowage space than the ivecos...

I also believe that it wont be a full time station... Yet... it will become retained and from what i hear around the traps its being welcomed by the crew.

My question is, do they seriously do "automatic" only truck licenses??
and if so why on earth wouldn't you learn in a manual so if circumstances arose u could actually you know, drive both??

Have the first build of FTS800 34 (Moores Build) in our brigade, 5 years on and no problems with the steps at all.

That was actually an error in communications from us, a group car was used by our capt and group officer to go investigate the job. However they failed to let comm's know that an appliance wasn't attending.

Our appliances are capable of running on the beach to about halfway to the murray mouth but we have been told under no circumstances are they to touch the sand so any fire on the beach is investigated in a group car.

In the end there was no car on fire, which is a nice change as we seem to have a select few down this way at the moment that are stealing cars then torching them on the beach near the carpark.

So a mistake was made, the SES were responded first not second, so whats the beef about him playing silly buggers with the SES??

SES got the wrong response type to start with, further reading of the page shows it is a car vs tree, the response type was changed 9 mins later to include a fire response for the job.
Should it have happened, no, but was a rescue resource on the initial page, yes.  Dont think it warrants calling people stupid, its actually not that difficult to put in the wrong response type if the CAD codes are similar.

Strath CFS were given RCR equipment and training i believe because the SES were so low on numbers and struggling to turn out so as to prop them up and assist them in covering their area.

Personally if the one service cant provide and the other can i dont see a reason for duplication, the service that can provide should be made the RCR brigade/unit for that area.

P1 and P2 are both lights and siren jobs,P3 is Priority 2 for SES.

Saw this come up today, MFS: STH29 HAS BEEN PLACED OUT OF SERVICE FOR 60 MINUTES DUE TO INABILITY TO CREW FOR INC 060 . A DEFAULT UNIT HAS BEEN DISPATCHED.

I responded to this job with Pt Elliot today, south coast only had one member turn up about 20 minutes after the initial page..

They seem to be having extreme difficulty getting crews for any jobs lately.  Perhaps its time they have a look at what strath SES seems to be doing and if there arent enough crew in area for the day they take their 91 out of service until the evening.

Whats the difference then if it takes CFS/MFS the better part of an hour to do a job that takes SES 20 minutes if it takes SES 40-50 plus minutes to arrive on scene??

With such high response times for a high percentage of calls for a lot of units out there, stop calls have to be a part of life for these units, surely it has become an accepted part of being an SES volunteer in the metro area?
At least it ensures the jobs you do actually attend are then worthwhile of the vollies time? 

We currently have 12 or 13 BA operators with a couple more to go through this year so do meet the minimums.

We currently have 6 BA sets, have been told we are dropping to 4.

We arent to happy about that considering we cover 8000 residents, a couple dozen plus B class risks, 2 schools, 2 Nursing Homes one 90 bed the other 60 beds and a shopping complex that is only partially sprinklered.  Also our area is continually growing in population.

Apparently because we have BA backup that is close by, now for me close by being a minimum of 20-25 minutes away with those risks isnt really all that close.

Also apparently a brigade further up the road from us who have a bit less population and similar other risks is going from 4 sets to 6 i dont quite get it.


We will try and fight to keep the current BA we have but who knows if that will be successful.

I have no want nor desire for burnside's pumper i was just simply asking what will become of their rescue area with a 9 pump all of a couple of kilometres away now.

So what will this do now to Burnside as a rescue resource?  WOuld they have now lost pretty much all of their area?

I think its time to put this to rest, i have said my piece, my opinions are my own formed from things that i have seen happen.

All i will say is first response if you are going to continue to pick on the actions of people or brigades on an open forum, put your name where your mouth is rather than hide behind your anonymity.

If the message isnt getting to the members via the captain then that is something the members need to bring up with their captain, it has nothing to do with the group..
As for our current GO sure he only has 2 years in the CFS but has a decade with a busy urban/rural CFA brigade including a large time of that as an officer plus very good managerial skills within his earlier work life, so how about u give the new team a go before you go sodding them off on a forum for all to see.

Btw i form my own opinions and dont rely on others to form them for me..


Anywho this really isnt the place to be airing your personal gripes about a group or individuals within a group, it really doesnt help peoples opinion of our team down here and to be honest makes you look quite petty and bitter, if things dont work out with our current group team then so be it, you can sit in your corner and giggle like a little school child, but until thats proven how about you give them a go and stop slagging them off on here and maybe do it to their faces if you have sych an issue!!

The new Mundoo group people didn't even put a page out asking for any one. Wouldn't have happened with the previous group people. If R1 asked they put page out to whole group. Pissed a couple of captains off but at least they asked the members.
Down here we don't even get a chance to have a go. I think that's poor management at group level.

First response, the previous group people are gone, there is a good reason for that, they couldnt stand up and take responsibility for their actions they preferred to blame everyone else, and from that the new mundoo group officers now have substantial rebuilding to do for our group name which is now Mud because of previous done deeds....

Captains were asked about putting people forward again, no this wasnt done via pager it was done via phone.

If you are going to continually have an anonymous snipe on a public forum at this group and its brgades and what goes on at least have the balls to put your  name to it.   

So your telling me that in 3 years of planning there is no fallback put in place to say, lets postpone the burn until anohter time as in 48 hours there will be 60kph plus northerly winds forecast to occur, perhaps a ....HA scrub burn shouldnt be undertaken as we cannot garuntee a fire that large is going to be blacked out before these winds occur.

So what if they were patrolling, it obviously wasnt enough, and it was the last of many that have gotten away from them..

IF a large fire occurs would i blame DEWNR for its ferociousness.... of course not.

Once again i say, how can any of us educate the public regarding safely undertaking a HR burn when over achievments are as common as a packed lunch.

Me personally i do regard the work they do very highly, BUT, things need to change at a decision making level to reduce the amount of over achievments occuring on such a regular basis.

One of my best mates is 4 years into his RSDP and loves it.
I know it wasnt easy to get into and you have to be prepared to go anywhere to do it.

My own opinion how could it not be worth it? On the job training, getting paid to learn and a garunteed job at the end of it.
Surely better than doing the degree with little on road experience and no garunteed job after graduation.

But the issue is that these burns are that large that they cannot be fully extinguished within 72hrs and that poor weather is causing them to break containment lines, whether they have more trucks would make little difference.  My point is that all too often these burns are conducted with high winds and no rain forecast and they over achieve.  Things need to change before one if these fires causes property loss and or injury/fatalities.  I think its a matter of when not if this happens.

whether there was monitoring of the fire i believe is either here nor there, why are these burns being done with this weather predicted.

We got lucky down here one of the locals last year decided he wanted to burn 4Ha of dropped pine trees the day before last seasons first TFB day, we thankfully talked him out of it, however first thing on May 1st he was out there lughting the whole lot off at once, resulting in us being called to it twice, thankfully it never spread.
If you cant lead by example how can any of us expect joe public to use extreme caution when burning.

So the fire Cox's Scrub at Ashbourne seems to be another top decision by DEWNR to burn the day before very strong winds had been forecast, this weather has been forecast all week yet they have decided to go ahead with the burn and it has gotten away from them.
Unusually it seems to be garnering very very little media attention.

Why are these burns continuing to take place before this weather comes, have lessons not been learnt from previous fires??
And what does it say for the service to continually have these over achievements that requires a lot of volunteer time from CFS?

Is it time for higher up's to take notice and change their procedures and practices for the hazard reduction burns.

How are any of us meant to educate the normal public out there who lets face it the large majority have not much more than air between their wingnuts about safely burning and choosing the right time to burn when they see large hazard reduction burns taking place out there with poor weather predicted...

What are peoples thoughts?
