Yea, I hear that to, they are in need of a better 24P and they deserve it.

Would be good to see Seaford get the 24P, then they could possibly use their old one as a spare

Some How I don't think the Barker Boys would like a 24p Over the Dennis, just seems a lil backwards if you ask me

What Barker need 3 pumpers now???(and don't give me that crap that a 24P isn't a pumper)What Barker needs is a QAV to back up the 24??
Title: Re: Happy Valley type 2 pumper
Post by: calspec on December 09, 2006, 04:46:47 PM
My money's on Seaford.  But any brigade with an increasing urban risk that does not have a dual cab pump could be on a short list (IMO).

Barker handed their 24P to Littlehampton when they recieved the pump/rescue, I can't see them accepting a similar appliance back in replacement for their troublesome Dennis.

Either fix the Dennis (properly) or replace it with a comparable appliance (Type 2?).  Even if that was to occur, they would still only have two pumps and a 24 rural.

Back to HVP, we get our first real play with it tonight with a special training session to be held.  don't know wether it has been designated yet or still waiting for the signwriter.

Viva La Pumper.

:-D :-D :-D

Is Happy Valley 24P NA or Turbo?
Title: Re: Happy Valley type 2 pumper
Post by: calspec on December 09, 2006, 06:29:12 PM
That was entirely its problem. NO TURBO.  Fine if you've got flat country to cover.  Useless in steep urban streets that are pentiful in the Happy Valley/Chandlers Hill/Aberfoyle Park area.  It's pump was only just passable for use in boosting jobs.

What about the new 34P's.  Are the Pumps on those bigger?
Title: Re: Happy Valley type 2 pumper
Post by: calspec on December 09, 2006, 07:51:21 PM
I belive the pumps are the same. Darley HE500.  This is in the 2005 specs as taken from Sept 05 Volunteer mag.  2006 spec may or may not be the same.  2 in/2 out arrangement also very limiting in urban fires.

Pump specs are designed to be:

34P 3000Lt/Min
24P 2000Lt/Min

MrT

Post by: Scania_1 on December 10, 2006, 02:59:16 PM
I am pretty sure that the 34P`s are a Darley HE500 still, the 500 being gallons per minute. Which equates to about 1900 litres per minute. The type 2`s are 750gpm or 3000 litres per minute.

Designed to be??  Do you mean that is what it was meant to be able to produce in the outset when designing the trucks?  If so they have failed terribly with pump choice..

Even the Type 2 (Designated Pumper) have a Rosenbauer NH30, putting out 2900Lt/Min at (I believe) 8 Bar.

So if the 24P / 34P were *meant* to be able to put out those figures, then they have had their pumps rather seriously downgraded since. I think the largest pump is a 500gpm darley on those appliances.

WHy doesnt Barker have hahndorfs Type2 and give Hahndorf the 24P, or are they gonna now make the 24P rescue appliance and have their current type 2 (not the one theyre borrowing) as strictly a pumper not rescue?
Title: Re: Happy Valley type 2 pumper
Post by: boss on December 12, 2006, 09:00:20 AM
why don't give the dennis a full overhaul and pass it onto another metro cfs brigade
Title: Re: Happy Valley type 2 pumper
Post by: Pipster on December 12, 2006, 09:03:58 AM
It already had a full refurbishment before arriving in SA....but appears to have constant problems - one problem is fixed, and the next one appears.......   :-(

It was originally bought as a trial - if it went well, CFS would seriously consider buying more...if it went poorly.......

Dennis the Menace

Latest saga is they had a windscreen come from New Zealand damaged and there were two more there but they were also damaged(in the same place) so now one is coming from London.

Might be back in service by Xmas

Don't think so... Dennis has more problems then just the windscreen...
24p is just a temp for Mt Barker, its not going to get referb, just a name change... barker boys are happy.

latest rumor i heard was dennis to go to a "less busy metro station" and barker to run a pumprescue, 24P and 24....

so the same truck that houses rescue gear would be frontrunning pump
Title: Re: Happy Valley type 2 pumper
Post by: Alan (Big Al) on December 12, 2006, 10:38:21 PM
^^Isn't that the case with most brigades who have RCR and a 24P/pumper??

Just out of complete bewilderment when is Dalkeith getting the 34Penis it's been floating around for a while??? Spoke to a member on KI and they were told if they kept hassling for it the name could easily be changed to someone else!!!! Good ol threats always shut's em up :|

Perhaps on the next batch of SES rescues CFS could fork out for one for Barker that would give them the stand alone and they are fairly decent truck and a lot faster than the canter too.

Dalkeith 34P  was sent back to its maker for some more work...not sure when it is due back, or what was wrong with it...

I don't think the brigade have actually had it, other than for a show a few weeks ago...    :-(

Another quick question obviously Tea Tree Gully are getting a 34P or something to that effect as they have just lost their front running urban appliance???? Where is the RCR equipment stowed until new appliance arrives as you would be pushing filtered up hill to fit the gear on the 24 and definatly not the 14???

Is their 14 being refurbished and sent somewhere else or being de-commissioned as that was decent looking appliance??

Perhaps the illustrious leader of Adelaide Hills SES could relinsquish power and then SES and CFS could end up in the same building as one service... then SES would happily pay for a new rescue truck...

Although I understand there are several older appliances (mainly 19 & 20 year old Rear entry Hinos) that CFS are keen to replace - either with a new appliance, or a refurbished one

Any additional crew that can respond during the day, that are BA qualified, are always welcome.  No brigade would enjoy having to default because of a lack of numbers.  So to get additional qualified AND experienced crew is good, very good.

It may mean, however, that some less experienced crew members may start missing the truck again.  You can't have the best of both worlds, we will find what bests fits for our brigades needs, I have no doubt.
