Title: CFS Dress Uniforms
Post by: SA Firey on August 23, 2006, 02:34:15 PM
There appears to be difficulty in obtaining CFS dress uniforms as the approved khaki previously is apparently not approved anymore.Anyone else having that same problem?

Unless you are paid staff and wear it every day for work, I can't see how it is really needed...

Back in the day, traditionally... maybe.. But everyone knows who brigade Lt's and Captains are without them having to highlight themselves by the use of the dress uniform.. - We are all volunteers....

Safirey - Just a general question, would you be fairly newly appointed to a Lt, Capt or Group officer position? - Just wondering as it's about that time of year for most brigades..  :-)

Not only Lt's or Captains can wear the dress uniform, anyone can, hence the epaulettes. It's not about seeing who is the 'big boss' but there are some occasions where the dress uniform maybe necessary for vollies, funerals, official ceremonies etc, albeit we don't see the uniform as much as we used too.

I agree with mengcfs...I resisted getting a dress uniform when I became Capt but have since found it very handy to wear to formal occasions eg meeting with pollies etc..it's a hard one though...personally, I think that officers should have them for a start...if other vollies want them..all good..you never know when they might be an officer or representing CFS...pity they couldn't make them UNIFORM...the shirts are ok but the pants all vary in colours of khaki!

we have an official thing to do with NPWS later where we will be representing the CFS and it was thrown around that we may have to wear dress uniform. i don't have a problem if we have to, because i don't really mind the uniform. In addition, it makes you feel part of something bigger and professional in my opinion.

from my experience firetruck..that's exactly the occasion to wear the uniform...and I agree with the bigger, professional environment...it also carries the recognition from external parties...I was lucky enough to be chosen to go back to Sydney for the parade after the fires...they all knew where we were from.

the latest ive heard is you cant buy one unless you have a CFS purchase order, and where we used to get our own previously or brigades would subsidise a purchase of one, need to go through Brigade Captains now

Mmmm - pond slime green!

had the uniform supplied as an office - wore it maybe twice in 5 years - now have a nice blue shirt with the star on, looks far better and is less threatening in public, yet very dressy and corporate!

Plus looks good with the photo ID and CFS lanyard!
