hmm, according to news.com.au there are an undisclosed amount of injuries and a few unaccounted people. but that pager msg paints a lot worser picture.

We cant start saying how this happened until reports are confirmed on how many are injured or unaccounted for we'll just have to wait till news time

Could it have anything to do with wanting MART combatants? I know some of the people that went weren't MART trained, but maybe they wanted them? :?

Ive got some photos, I'll post them later. We got to within around 75-100m of the factory. We built the decon zone upwind, uphill... which turned uphill, downwind rather fast. (Yay for weather forecasts) At the lovely smell of Nitric Acid (venting from its container), we had the zone packed back on the truck in uder 5 mins, and got the hell out of dodge.

There were numerous containers on the site that had either been breached or were suspected to be severly damaged. The main safety issue we had was a large container (I forget the mixture.. Im so terribly tired) that was burning yesterday. We had no idea of the temperature of it, and the IMT was unwilling to let anyone get close enough to find out. This, coupled with the 2-300kg (yes two - three hundred kilo) block of freshly made TNT sitting a few meters away, made things rather easier for a robot to complete.

Hard to believe anyone survived it... not much left of anything out there.

As far as I know, as of yesterday, only the SAPOL bomb squad was there. The same people who said on tusday 'Nah its safe, we dont need to be here, bye!"

Thats what we said! I believe (what we were told) was that it was 2-300 KILOS NOT Ton as was reported on the news. It may have changed upon the close inspection they had today though.

I found out that a guy in my brigades a MART team member and he was there. He said it was pretty interesting, he spent some time walking around in a gas suit taking snaps of various containers for HAZMAT crews.

Speaking to some SES people. Crews were on site from Tuesday to Saturday.

Saturday's task was to plot GPS co-ordinates on all debris at the site, so that a plan of the explosion/impact area could be created.

Have seen some photos which are surprising and humbling. Condolances to families, community and crews that were affected.

It has been a busy few months with industrial accidents in SA. i hope this is the end.
