2006 STATE JOINT SERVICES ROAD CRASH RESCUE CHALLENGE
Volunteers Needed
8th-9th April
Wayville Showgrounds
As reported in the last edition of "Volunteer", this year's State Road Crash Rescue Challenge will be staged again in conjunction with the Adelaide Motor Show at Wayville Showgrounds on the weekend of 8-9 April.
This will be the third joint agency competition held in this State, and the second comprising all three Services, the MFS having competed for the first time last year.
International Assessors grade this a "World Class" Event !
Whether your Brigade is RCR or not, this is an event worth attending. The first interagency RCR Challenge, staged at Brukunga in 2004, set the standard. Of the 6 Assessors chosen to judge the three disciplines, 5 were from interstate.
Apart from the distinction of being the only State to hold a mixed agency competition, we were adjudged to be the "best event of its type in Australia".
>From that inaugural event, we now have interstate Assessors vying for the opportunity to judge in Adelaide, at an event that is described as "world class".
Come and see for yourself!
~~~~ VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED ~~~~
HELPERS ARE STILL REQUIRED DURING THE WEEK LEADING UP TO THE "CHALLENGE", AS WELL AS THE WEEKEND ITSELF !!!
MMMMMMMMMMM you know i miss the RCR at the state comps,bring it back and you never know more people may start showing up at the comps......
What is the main differences with holding the RCR Comps within CFS State Comps or a combined competition ? I admit I have never been to a CFS State Comps so this is a genuine question to update my knowledge.
Thanks,
hey does anyone know what brigades are in it? I have no clue. cheers
The cfs comps where just that cfs,and it was a great day or two to catch up with other RCR brigade members from all over the state but since the new rcr comps at the showgrounds I would say that there has been a drop in CFS brigades taking part. Not sure why but I would say the cost of having two outtings to comps rather than just the one. You also now have cfs/mfs/ses/cfa taking part in the new comps.....
not too sure if CFA are participating this year... saw them last year and it was great to see how a differant service operated...
yes the guys from werribee cfa are good and they sure know their stuff having been doing rescue work for a long time but they also have good support from members who are ambos,police or paid firefighters...
Not sure how many teams are going in them - but they are a good to watch (with a good commentator who explains what the crews are doing)
Also see some really good new innovations and variations to the tried and tested techniques.
Would be nice to see them grow and have good attendacne from the many RCR providers across the state! Not sure why the numbers are dropping, everyone seams to be getting busier with RCR incidents, what a great way to test your skills and pick up new ones and also see how you perform as a team against other teams/units/stations
OZFIRE,you hit it on the head we are all getting more call outs and just way to busy to take part in all the different comps that come up. As I have said before I would like to see the cfs comps have RCR back in it bit that is not going to happen is it????
not to sure about having them at the CFS Comps - RCR is a lot broader that the CFS comp system - and different focus - would like to see CFS comps grow in participation (like the old days) and make a weekend of it.
However regional RCR comps would be good - saves time on travel and then allows local comps with winners going to state comps - now that would be good for local community, media and general awareness whilst also promoting RCR across all services and crews
That sounds great ozfire,just need to get people willing to take part in it and it would be good PR.
YES! you just said the magic words...people willing. Some people think they give up enough time for the CFS, and sometimes i don't feel like doing a CFS related thing all week.
Ain't that the Truth - CFS does take up a lot of time!
However I see the RCR Comps like any weekend sporting event - if people are keen, interested to excel, interested in competition and want to see if they are as good as they think they are - then bring on competition!
There are always excuses
There are always those who think they are good
There are those who are efficient and competent, and then
There are those who will take a day or two to test not only their teams but themselves and see if they are what they think they are and make the most of the opportunity!
amen!
Read on another site today - that the Australasian rescue comps will be held here in July - now surely thats a great motivator to RCR crews - take out the state comps and then go head to head with Australia's best - if nothing else - GREAT experience and excellent learning opportunity - should be a good spectator sport too 8-)
One of the other problems is the rules what we learn is not the same as what is done at the challenge and so we would all need to understand the rules. Would be nice to enter a team but lets look at it this way... If we enter a team thats 6 may 7 members that have to go away from the area now I am not sure how many RCR members you have trainned but that is a big cut of members who will be out of town... We dont have RCR back up ,up the road it has to come from 50 kms away.......
Blinky - can see your point - it's hard for people to learn rules!
Hoverer in relation to the team being absent from the area, do these same members not ever go away, have social functions, participate in strike teams or attend other incidents that are not RCR??????
At the end of the day there are always perceived reasons why people can't ........
And then there are those who do put in the time and deserve the glory, deserve the rewards, deserve the attention, deserve the respect of all other RCR crews and most of all deserve to claim the title of the best in the service
no they dont. salisbury MFS won last year. they have a very good history for CFS comps as there always seems to be very little cometition for them which is dissapointing. this year the only CFS brigades were Bwd and Stirling. Stirling did a fantastic job though, managed to watch a couple of there drills. The stirling boys didnt walk away with nothing though, Best Medic.
Did you catch the CFA guys there today by any chance?
It's always Salisbury and Blackwood that win. The citizens must feel good if they ever happen to be involved in an MVA.
CFA did a very good job of a rather 'messy' scenario in the limited section (i take it you were there 24p?) for those who arent aware the limited section basically limits the team to the use of hand tools only plus a reciprocating saw... im not sure of the exact definition, anyway see the attatched image of there scenario.
also; the official placings, per a media release.
QuoteSouth Australia's best Road Crash Rescue champions named today.
Media information issued 5pm Sunday April 9, 2006.
Competition between the fire and emergency services (Metropolitan Fire Service, Country Fire Service and State Emergency Service) was fierce over the weekend at the annual State Road Crash Rescue Challenge held at Wayville during the Motor Show.
Fire and emergency teams from Blackwood (CFS), Stirling (CFS), Laura (SES), South Coast (SES), Salisbury (MFS), Riverland MFS), Adelaide(MFS), and a visiting Country Fire Authority team from Werribee in Victoria competed in a range of scenarios in three categories.
Unlimited Class (within a timeframe of 20 minutes and using any approved Road Crash Rescue equipment) was won by Blackwood CFS
The Limited category(rescue techniques without use of powered hydraulic equipment) was also won by Blackwood CFS
The Rapid Extrication Class (which assumes the casualty has life-threatening injuries and the rescue can only take 10 minutes) was won by Salisbury MFS.
The award for Best Team Leader went to Blackwood CFS's Craig Oates.
Best Medic went to Stirling CFS's Justin Ranford.
Each of the Emergency Services also presented perpetual trophies to the highest scoring team in their service.
The highest scoring SES team, Laura SES, won the Malseed Perpetual Trophy.
The highest scoring CFS team awarded the Fire and Rescue Perpetual Trophy was Blackwood CFS.
The MFS perpetual trophy went to Salisbury MFS.
In the weekend event's best overall scoring Salisbury MFS ranked third, Laura SES ranked second and the winner was Blackwood CFS. These three teams will now represent South Australia to compete in the Australasian Road Crash Rescue competition to be held in Adelaide from July 20-23 2006.
Whats the likely hood of having a prang while that EXACT rescue crew is on tho ?
B/wood won best CFS last year i believe.. They have done well to retain it once again.
blackwood are an excellent team/brigade, i do not doubt this after seeing them at the comps for the last few years and working with them at actual RCRs/MVAs since i started. but it could be said that perhaps one of the reasons BWD has such a monopoly over the CFS side of the comps is the lack of competition, which is dissapointing, considering that all accomodation and most meals are paid for...
Mate, there a probably PLENTY of people that will do it.. but aren't part of RCR brigades..
Which is even more of a pity...
Maybe the CFS needs to grant more equipment and training and give more brigades rescue gear ??
:D
*wakes up from the dream*
yes was there today, caught the Adelaide A? shift, the CFA and Salisbury's work
well you dont have to be in an RCR brigade. im not sure... probly have to be RCR trained tho' which of course is difficult if your not a RCR brigade/unit.....
If its for Salisbury MFS then you got probably a 25% chance of having that crew. But, Salisbury have been in quite a few comps, whether it always the same crew...
Yeah, one of the guys in salisbury is also in burnside i think. I only kinda caught his name at the last second.
I saw laura, blackwood, riverland, stirling, salisbury and just missed werribee. basically i stayed there most of the day coz i saw everything the motor show had to offer in about an hour!
good on blackwood for winning, i hadn't seen their RCR crew perform before and they're the goods. Its a shame stirling didn't do better.
either way its comforting to know that both those brigades are close to my house, so if i crash i'm in good hands!
Howdy Everyone!,
I was in an official capacity at the Road Crash Rescue Challenge on the weekend and was impressed at the professionalism, team-work, leadership and overall skills in all of the scenario's that these teams faced.
Congratulations to Blackwood CFS for taking out the honours, but I think that everyone "wins" just for participating and learning different things from other teams.
I look forward to going to the Australasian Challenge in Adelaide in July.
Regards, Mat
Blackwood have won the CFS RCR Comps for the every year since 96 and plenty of times before that...
yeah, they're pretty good. I have a lot of respect for blackwood now.
Were many 'general public' spectators watching the competition ?
a few. They came and went all day. There were a few people from services watching. There seemed to be heaps of mets watching.
mr. kirkmoe - dunno if its the kirkmoe on here or his brother...
Well done to the Blackwood crew - great to see that their team continues to change and despite this they still win! Great allocate for Blackwood (to have many excellent RCR operators) and to CFS, to continue having a winning team.
Fingers crossed that both Blackwood and the other services teams that compete in the Australasian RCR challenge here in July win.
Regardless its nice to see crews who put in the time to train, practice their skills, use those skills efficiently and effectively are rewarded by entering and winning the challenge and comp :-D :-D :-D
OZ-FIRE, more RCR brigades would have gone if there where crews around to cover the area's risks well done to blackwood . I know the RCR brigades in this region train hard and are very good at what we do,its a pitty that we dont have the numbers to send crews away to the comps but that is a part of life that all service's have to deal with.............
Blinky - I understand, but in this game it's called risk management, you deal with the issue at hand, not the issue that may arise ..... if ...... or ..... when!
Maybe if there was enough interest around the state we would see regional RCR challenges, with the winning teams going through to the state level, but even then crews would have to leave their areas to participate ....... one would hope that with all brigades having response plans, issues like these could be sorted at a local level :|
that would be kirkmoe senior.... the salisbury team actually has KIRKMOE, KIESSLING and DOUGLAS.... all burnside members....
cant win it with one service, then try the other :evil: :evil: :evil:
