Ok this forum has been a bit slow lately, it really is time to throw this hook and see who bites.
Who is having a go on the roundabout next time around?
:? :? :?
Might give it a whirl, you'll never know if you don't try!
Yea I'll give it another crack...
I am still trying to work out if i should have another crack or just let the dream go after all this time. Will be nine years and six attempts if i go again.
Any whispers starting yet? And if they still let them in at 50
I reckon keep the dream alive!
Wasnt many retirements this year so this may effect the recruiting for next year
I'll be giving it another go. Hopefully this time will be the time
I'll be in it again. Have the letters gone out to inform the cab rank from the last lot yet?
Its done... letters received that us in the waiting pool is now expired.. back to having a crack next year... (or the year after if not many retirements) stupid economy holding them back!
i heard it's unlikely they will recruit in 2014 - due to not getting much budget

Pretty sure the budget cuts were minimal. SAMFS has a minimum staffing numbers policy so if there is a number of retirements then they will have to recruitg
Hi everyone,Its my first time posting on the forum, so i thought I'd say Hello. I've been eagerly waiting for the next MFS recruitment to come around. This will be my first try as well. I didn't apply back in 2011 as had just gotten back from an extended stint overseas and had no HR license at the time.
Any word on a possible intake this year?? As usual i have heard rumours that there could be one early this year.

ive heard March but just a rumour. Just make sure you have yourself ready with license etc for when they call.
Best of luck to everyone going full-time :) I would myself but I want to get some experience in the retained MFS

Just need to update my first aid and im good to go. Will be my second attempt so hopefully better luck this time.
I have heard to start looking around end of Feb. I will not be joining in the excitement this time around, start a new job on Monday so my aspirations of becoming a fireman are now at an end. Good luck to all applicants, know the PID and enjoy the ride. I will watch with interest!!!!
hey guys , ive been watching the forums for a while now and was wondering if any of you guys no of/ heard of any tutors that can help with the aptitude and profiling test . It seems like a silly question but ive heard a thing or two about it ?????????/ but cant track them down ! fingers crossed they have another intake this year. :-D

Any year 11 maths/english student could teach you. The maths is not difficult. Just google aptitude testing and practise the examples you find.
The key is studying! It's how I got passed the defence force aptitude and I imagine they are pretty similar but most of it can be in your head! Study, get plenty I sleep and be confidant on the day you'll be fine :)
Do you guys think 19 is to young for full-time if I meet the prerequisites? Any know of any MFS staff that young?
The youngest I have heard is 22... But then again there's no harm in trying your luck :wink I know I will be again..
Why not I'll give this year a shot then, first time :)

They cant discriminate due to age so you have a good shot. I know guys who were 20/21, even 50yr olds get in :-o
That is good to hear I only worry because the job does require a fair bit of life experience I gather that's why they might look at me a bit different I guess. Though I do think more younger people would do the MFS good as it is an ageing work force. But I'll try my luck if there is one this year.
You will never know if you dont have a crack at it, if you are not successful then you still have the experience of going through the process. Have a crack and see how it all plays out. Good luck to all!!
Looks like some may need to tidy up their english skills also.
Its only an Internet forum not the stat test ;)
.... best of luck then! :?
Thanks i think we'll all need it hahaha
I have a question regarding the required first aid certificate. The MFS website clearly states that it must contain the code HLTFA301B code which i had but has now expired. When looking to book to update it, the code is now HLTFA311A and they claim that it supersedes the other one. I have tried to ask the MFS but cant get a response. Does anyone know if they will accept this code and maybe they just need to update the website?? Id hate to turn up to the testing and they tell me they wont accept it!! Cheers.

Yes, HLTFA311A is the current version of the Apply First Aid course (formerly known as Senior First Aid) and supersedes HLTFA301C which superseded HLTFA301B. From what you say MFS are a few versions behind on their website.
Thanks for that, i hope your right!!
SAMFS have update there website! Good luck everyone I'll give this year a miss

Yeah no retirements and no money in the budget. But only a rumour. Could change, late year intake perhaps if things change end of financial year
If they say monitor the website from July, you would think they were possibly planning a recruitment later in the year. I hope so anyway!!

I Got a pre Christmas deal and paid $1990. I would'nt pay full price for it. The course wasn't really what i expected so i was a little disappointed. Time will tell if it was worth while i guess!!

Yeap!! it's actually gone up to over 5K now which is crazy!! I was recommended to do it by a mate who is in the MFS. Might sound crazy to some but i'm pretty keen to get in so if this helps in some way then ill say it was worth it. Heaps of people in the MFB and CFA do it.
I had it recommended to me as well, the price was high but if it makes your chances of getting in better, why not? I decided that i was not in a financial position to do the course nor could i afford the time. Good luck to you, i hope it all pays off.
Thanks Gasman, i hope so too!!
So the rumours are starting to fly again.
word is Training Dept have been asked by those upstairs how they would manage 100 recruits?
5 drill squads back to back, or with overlap as has happened recently?
100! wow it's gonna be a big year this year :o I'd be happy when a vacancy arrives in Kapunda retained MFS but I'm still going to be waiting for a while.
I hope this is true, It makes sense that it would be a large intake, They haven't done one for a couple of years now.

Come on MrT, you know better than to believe fire service rumours.
Mawson Lakes is a fart in the wind. It's only a thought.

A lot of those people that are keen to get into the job don't just focus on Adelaide. Especially when Adelaide aint advertising...
So July has come along now and the rumour mill has gone a bit quiet!!
Has anyone heard of any firmer dates to when they might start the next recruitment??
QuoteSo July has come along now and the rumour mill has gone a bit quiet!!

Don't hold your breath, probably not going to be any for a long while.
Website now says November. Looks like we will all be waiting out for another few months at least. :x Good for me though. Gives me time to get the truck licence sorted.
If the website said monitor from November im guessing that would mean they wont call for applicants til early next year because nothing will happen over December and early January
Apparently a recruit process will start late january/early Feb so the actual intake wouldnt be til mid year.
Could have something to do with upcoming State elections?
I heard the Libs may offer redundancy packages to ageing firies, which may open up more opportunities...

nothing to do with that I would say. They had about a dozen retirements this year and probably expect the same next year so will need to run a couple of squad.
Considering Christies, O'Halloran Hill and some other stations look like most of their fire fighters are in the 50+ age bracket, I would say that there will probably be a number of vacancies in the next year or two.
I'll be looking at an intake in 2015 anyway.

Was only about 10 retirements this year and wouldnt expect it to change much in next couple of years

Heard the same recently............ possibly advertising early next year but unsure of the numbers
Again,
Possibly and advertisement at the end of this year (Dec) or the beginning of next year (Jan)
Hi everyone, I have been following this forum for sometime now but this is my first time commenting. I have been with the CFS for a number of years and a former soldier however the next recruitment will be my first time applying for the MFS.
I see the website has been updated lately saying to monitor from January 2014 but has anyone heard of anything further?
The SAMFS never give too much info away regarding recruitment, i have heard they will start a process in January, not sure if the upcoming state election and possible change of government would have any impact on this. Just keep monitoring the website and make sure you have everything rewuired to apply at short notice eg. truck license and current first aid
