I was asked a question by some mates that I that I thought I would forward on to others on this forum. Do we need more SAAS stations? If so where? Or, do we have too many?

But in answer to your question about stations... Bored has a point about the rapid expansion north, south and now the hills will require not necessarily more stations but more crews, more PTS options and more first response (i.e SPRINT).

I actually would be curious to dig deeper into the infrastructure costings that the new developments have.
To see if the capital costs for new stations, vehicles and equipment are included in the infrastructure costs associated with the sub-division developments.
For example, it is reported that the developers will pay for infrastructure costs of an additional freeway interchange. They allocate land for shopping centres. Have they done the same for emergency services ?
Personally I don't care who is providing the service, as long as the coverage is planned for.
SAAS need more staff before they look at more stations.....

What about east/south east? There aren't any stations that cover Kensington/Burnside/St Georges/Glen Osmond. The closest would be City, Campbelltown and Mitcham? Maybe Stirling, but I doubt they will be dragged down for an eastern suburbs job.
But yes, more staff are needed, considering both North and South have had coverage issues over the last couple months.
They are at least 10 cars down at present from what it should be, so management are trying to fill the void on road, listening to the the scanner today has OM,CS cars running all over the place.
DR2 is also about came across a nasty MVA at TTP today.
PTS needs revisiting to free up Paramedics for cat A and B jobs, and I don't mean more private firms!!
Private PTS may actually the answer. Do we need to privatise just as Victoria did 20 years ago.
definitely is the way to go, but don't know how much the AEA would be willing to let it go.
needs to be something that is "managed" over time- while increasing ESS skills and adjusting workload in order to ensure that no jobs are lost. if these staff are upskilled and SAAS adjusts it's tasking so that ESS can play a more significant role than just racking up hundreds of thousands of kilometres driving from Port Adelaide to Noarlunga to FMC to the RAH to Glenside to Gawler to LMHS and back to FMC all before first crib, then I think it might just be tangible!

You obviously don't visit the paging websites very often....Stirling is regularly attending jobs in the Eastern suburbs....

Do not think we need anymore SAAS stations in Adelaide. They are strategically placed throughout Metropolitan Adelaide. just need more crews to handle the increase in population and a complete change in medical direction with new ideas and not an old ideology. :lol:
There is many a SAAS para convinced PTS is dead. There is a major Victorian PTS company who has listed on the stock market recently with funds going to their expansion into NSW, WA and yes Adelaide... I read the prospectus and said company already has 100 PTS ambulances and over 300 staff.
Would this be the same one you've been telling us that "is coming" for the last 12 months?
I thought they were supposed to be kicking off July 1 2010 ?
They might be a big company, but SA is a pretty finicky market!

which station(s) cover the western suburbs? glenelg, brighton? i know there's one opposite the police station on sturt? road... are there any other stations nearby?

Answer to the first question is no. Fulham has multiple emergency ambulances, as does Cambelltown. Port Adelaide, Salisbury, Playford, Ashford, ect have two or more ambulances that attend emergencies. Some crews are ICP and others are paramedics.
Answer to the second question: Two Ambulances (in some cases 3) are dispatched to cat A's. They might be SPRINT, designed to get to incidents quickly. To the best of my knowledge its rare to see an ATS crew attending emergencies, they are there for transfers.
And I'm not sure about the third questions.
