Just a quick question - to be employed to work in the MFS ComCen, do you still need to go through the MFS Recruitment process ? Or will MFS employ staff specifically for the ComCen role (not firefighters).
No they don't employ off the street, they merged the CFS and MFS and then that was it, everyone else is either a volunteer or a secondment, which last for 2 years.
As Darren said, apart from us 'special cases' [ex-CFS SOCC staff], all comms operators are from drill squads.

SAAS EOC do recruit from the street though mate. Coule be worth a look if you are interested in taking your call taking experience further. Just keep an eye on there site or the paper for when they advertise.

Last SAAS call centre jobs were part-time without the shift loading. So a large drop in $$ income with uncertainty on impact SACAD will have to employment conditions & employment opportunities.
I cannot impact my family to that risk until kids are older. So I did not apply. But I will watch & see what happens during the next few years.
They say you go through 3 different careers in your working life. I have done 2 different full-time careers so far....
