Post by: Cameron Yelland on October 05, 2008, 06:51:23 PM
Does anyone have access to this policy?  I cant seem to get my hands on it.

If so can someone PM me with it or post it here?

Its a terrible policy, but does make for some interesting reading, such as no need for helmets for grassfire mop up or T/C if I remember correctly.

Our group policy is bushwacker to be worn only to rural jobs, and if you dont have a bushwacker and just a structural helmet 45min on 15 minutes off. :|

I know what id rather wear :-D

It does not matter how many call's a brigade does, the group and CFS must provide the gear to those who are trained in CABA so that they can safely do their job with the best protection from PPE.... So you can't wear a rural or wildfire helmet into a burning structural fire,if we where allowed to do this then they would not have structural helmets on the CABA course. If they wont give you the correct gear fill in the OHSW forms that will get them moving.......

Well I know the level 1 course book says in clear big bold letters that you should not wear a structural helmet to a rural job due to the extra weight. However it doesn't refer to any SOP.

Hence why most people forget about what they were taught in Level 1..

No,I re did it as I was being a little harsh on the group who has this silly rule and so I felt it was better I start the ball rolling and may be someone else may jump on  here and  say their 50 cents worth.....As I have said to a memberr of the brigade who is having this problem FILL in the OHSW forms that way they have to give you what is correct PPE for the job.....

Agree totally Bill, Safety is non-negotiable, but I think that we all know a few people, that we would rather send them into a burning structure, with a fuel soaked towel on their head, instead of the structural
