Bordey or some of you other blood bus drivers, what are some of the more unusual callouts you have attended,? you often hear of patients presenting to emergency with "difficulties" some self inflicted :-o
Ooooohhhh...you have opened a real can of worms there Jaff
mmm..unfortunately.....nothing memorable
the usual "I lost my grip and it dissapeared up there" doesn't raise eyebrows anymore....sadly!
delivering babies is more memorable than the aforementioned cases...and no..not because I get a free look without getting slapped....
the odd trauma job is still memorable.... Car Vs Bike with the patient on the roof of the 4X4 with multiple fractures always makes you think....but more about selling the bike before it happens to you more than anything!
Most memorable case I attended was a Trauma job, much like what BM described.
Bike VS Car 4 km out of town. Bike was in excess of 120km/h when hitting the car doing a good 100km/h.
Bike had 2 on board. 1 with an open face helmet. (Rider and passenger located 200m down the road from the bike).
Some nasty injuries, some open fractures, spinal injuries, and some serious, serious skin graphs required. (Resulted in retrieval funnily enough).
Normally the calls to the Hotel when you deal with inebriated persons are always quite amusing, whilst the most difficult at the same time.
ever seen an arterial bleed.....
...from a tongue - bike rider Vs' kerb - faceplant
..... out the end of a penis? - Supra-pubic Catheter insertion that went wrong
Hmmm.. Can't say I have had the pleasure of such!
Who knows, see what comes up in a couple of weeks! ;)
Went to an MVA years ago at Devils Elbow motorcyclist pillion passenger put his foot in the back wheel instead of the footpeg....COMPOUND fracture big time :-o
collapse just out of the city.... nice little modern unit. Step inside....whoa....so this is what they look like inside...lolol
Obviously the excitement was a little too much for the elderly gentleman concerned and he was beyond help. For the benefit of all concerned the documentation read that it occured on the footpath outside, so everyones privacy was respected. Had an offer of a free "consultation" for our community minded-ness, but i couldnt convince my (female) partner to stay. Damm shame that

Buy her a Womans day magazine and donut, yourself a wire brush and Detol and go for a callback  only to be community minded, of course :-)
 .. Love your work Jaff..
