Ahhh he could have experience. He worked at kadina for 6 years (see http://www.premier.sa.gov.au/ministers.php?id=9).

From a city bloke, not all emergencies are rural based.....   :-D

At least she bothered to talk directly to the members thru letters to Unit managers & their deputies.
And she bothered to reply to my emails, which is more than I can say about another minister I contacted about another matter.
Couple things people need to remember
1) in the private sector your can't directly approach the director or the chairman of the board (they say you can but you can kiss your career goodbye if you do).
2)Things aren't as bleak as some make out.
3) With virtually every paid public servant pushing for pay rises & not being prepared to accept productivity increases & the community wanting everything -there is little fat left for us!
4) A lot of the issues individuals complain about lie within the respective services - there is a fair bit of "yes minister" and
5) some of our elected officers don't help matters!
And our associations need to consult ALL members, not just a select group!
Anyway I hope the new bloke does ok because there is massive change coming & if he is no good a great deal of harm could descend on you all!
cheers

Need to see if the lower minions have changed as well, or if they have followed the Emergency Services portfolio to the new Minister.

If they have changed, the impact could be greater while the lower minions learn & understand.

Your not talking about BRAD are you Andrew?
Seriously they are only adivsers - it's really up to the minister & David Place & the 3 CEO's to fight for the services against the rest of government.
And the 3 services need to work more closely together instead of stupid turf wars.
The best way to survive is if the community identifies the respective service with an important task.
E.G a pager message went out to all CFS region HQ's it mentioned CFS, SAPOL & SAAS - no mention of SES eventhough they were at the same incident, this isn't an oversight it happens almost ever time. Until every link in the command chain acknowledges the work of their siblings then political forces will use this to drive wedges to weaken the volunteer/ retained position & you will all loose out.
I personally see a positive future for our services as long as we continue to work together. Anyway hopefully things will be good.
cheers
