Just in at Wakefield Street MFS HQ (Station 20) and got to see what looks to be the new replacement for 204. Looks to have the same buildup on the back as current, including the Palfinger Crane, but with a new Scania Cab/Chassis. Only new addition is a winch on the front.
It would be nice if the CFS could run similar Rescues!
Yeah not a bad bus that! Built by the workshops, crane is off the old 204 spare. Has been around for a while, just not on the run.
I think for the cost CFS could build half a dozen Canter rescue's, so it would never happen.
I think the crane is an interesting add on for that appliance. I believe it is from the old rescue tender with the pod system where they could transfer a pod to the ground. Don't know how much it gets used, but have only heard of it once with a patient removal from a balcony on a 2 storey house at Seaview Down recently.
I don't think any other fire services in oz have a crane on there heavy rescue tenders.
The crane and pod configuration have come from the 'old' 204.
The crane has been used a number of times to retrieve vehicles and other items and I also believe a few times to assist in stabilisation (although not sure how you would feel working in car with that style of stabilisation James???)
WAFB did have similar and they are also used O/S - but for a variety of different reasons - in Europe they seam to have a better pod set up - from RCR to Hazmat, to Medical to water recovery, to salvage - probally the precursor to what MFS are doing with the roll on roll off.
I think that's why they have now gone to a fixed body on both 204's, the Volvo was rebuilt with a fixed body, the Scania also has a fixed body. The POD system seems to be developing.
I have also seen the crane used several times.
I heard it was used last week for a horse (ney!) recovery last week at Williamstown
Awesome truck.
Have seen the crane stabalise a car at a rescue before, gets used a fair bit.
Anyone Got A Pic To Post???
On my other PC, will put a few up tonight.
Got a bit of a low down on the truck:
Moore did the Build up, MFS workshops did the fit out. Some of the panels are now lifting as they were put on with double sided 3M sticky tape! True Story no bull! Apparently using the sticky tape is what fire appliance manufacturer is europe have been doing for years!
Interesting though!
Is this the new or the old one, as I have noticed the older one missing some bits.
I could have sworn SAMFS workshops did the whole body on the new one as I dropped in a few times in the early stages and they were doing it.
No it definitely the new one, talked to one of the Workshop guys about it the other day.
Well Moore's must have done just the basic shell, as when I saw it, it was unpainted, had no roller doors fitted and was sitting on blocks of wood on the chassis in the workshops, and it took ages, I reckon the truck itself would be nearly 2 years old!
The 3M tape sounds a little dogy!
Wonder if the union knows about this :?
Using 3M tape saves money and time - hence more for the pay rise
Here are a few pics I aquired....

i presume we can then link images from our own galleries/web pages???
p.s. would have replied in the other topic area, but its locked....
By the looks of the two or three new MF S appliances I've seen I think they're fitting additional airconditioning unit to the roof like you can see on 204. I love better a/c's in some of our vehicles, they are currently good, but don't cut the mustard on hotter days!
That is one thing i havent found to be a huge problem with our 2001 Model 24P.
2000 model, toughen up guys............ :-P
same sh*t, different channel.
A bit of news for an old thread, but....
Moore Engineering manufactured the first vehicle on the volvo, also manufactured the body of the second vehicle on the scania. Workshops did the fit out, Skilled did the electrical and painting.
Moore Eng used 3M tape for the panels - it is a tried and tested method of manufacture, some of the panels lifted. Combination of problems, but it was re worked and seems fine now.
Moore Eng have also used a glue, this is common in vehicle manufacture - cars. It also works well.
Andrew
Very nice trucks, it just goes to show that moores can make an excellent product when given the right direction and money, unfortunatly alot of the complaints about trucks coming out of moores is because of a lack of funds and c.f.s trying to squeeze too much out of them.
Here Here, you only have to look at the SES Rescue trucks, they do a great job of those.
Thanks all for the feedback and positive support. we do (as with most manufactures) the best job that the budget allows. If we could all get those money trees growing and blooming thing could be a lot diffrent.
If you want some info on 204,i can tell you that it was decked out by MFS engineering. The frame was made by Moore Engineering.A guy called Richard at MFS manufactured and welded the locker floors in it,set up the wheel arches and panelled parts of it.Then it was sent back to Moores to be finished.By the way 3m aint no good...
Interesting that services write the specifications and sign off on the final product and styling, workmanship etc, etc, etc and then that same service has issues with the product and who cops the blame - the manufacturers, who were only following the specs written by the service.
Good to see mfs engineering working with local manufacturers to complete projects!
it sounds like this truck ahs done more miles when getting built than on response.
I often see this truck if i'm in town, and i've been to an RCR where it was responded. A good truck, methinks.
I saw an unidintified MFS truck today near Gawler station. THey were just sittin there outside the centrelink building. Looked like Salisbury's older one but didnt have Salisbury written on it.
Might have been one of the spares, when we were at Two Wells for flooding last november a couple of the MFS guys had brought the spares up with them and they looked like Salisbury 329??
Yeah, most likely. Wonder what it was doing down here though. Was probably less than 1km from Gawler MFS.
Might have been replacing 359 or sitting on a boundry for a COQ job or promo job could've been anything i suppose.
Yeah I guess, bro was drivin so fast didnt really get a chance to see what was happening.
List about as long as my arm for what could have been happening.
Nxt time just ring MFS and ask... Its easier..
:-P
Do you have midget arms or are you an octopus? :-P
Where are the spare MFS appliances kept?
Im a tall filtered.
MFS spares are usually kept at adelaide, or the training facility.. Very occasionally u might see one being stored at a station for a short time...
When the bush fires were happening in Jan through adelaide hills and pt lincoln etc, cause they were stretched, they called extra crews in, to man training appliances... Saw and heard a few going Priority 1 around the place.
hey wheres the training facility? is that where they do the intake tests and stuff?

As you can see by Picture 009 how many there are,but to have their faces shown here would be abusing the privledge
