G'day peeps now i know that were still another month or two away from when summer crew work positions open but i figured now is the best time to find out whos going to apply for summer crew work this fire season and which agency they are gonna try and get into
As for me well i have applied for 2 jobs one with Green Triangle Forest Products as a forest worker and the other as a Project Fire Fighter with DSE Victoria with abit of luck hopefully i'll get one or the other :-)
hey Robert ITC are also looking for summer crews....
Yay another job to look forward too :-D i just sent you a pm about this blinky :-)
im gonna apply for whatever i find, except id like to be able to respond to callouts with my brigade at the same time to avoid day crew issues hehe
Well i rung up ITC Penola Office today and now i've gotta take a resume up to the office tomorrow at 3pm :-D with abit of luck seeing as how i enquired early i might be on their crew for this season but thats another thing to wait and see
DEH are advertising seasonal firies...
figured everyone would find out eventually anyway.. lol :P
Sorry Mack im already sought after by DSE and ITC  you could say im hot property  although if any other forestry or national parks agency wants me they are more than welcome to make me an offer :-D
DEH here i come! job hunting using SA-Firefighter works better than Career one :-D
Ditto Dezza if i do get on the ITC crew i'd like to thank Blinky for telling me that ITC were after fire crew and everyone else on here who believed that i would one day be apart of a season fire crew :-)
Job advert in Southern Messenger newspaper this week for seasonal firies at Deep Creek.
i wonder if they can do part time positions hehe...i cant be available 38 hours per week  due to studying.
I am running a book this year to see if Robert gets a job.......

I rung up the Penola Office while i was in Mount Gambier today during shopping and the lady who answered was more than happy for me to come into the ITC office tomorrow at 15:00 to hand in my resume and maybe have a quick interview :-)
To be honest i might have increased my chances by ringing today and asking about summer crew work plus Kalangadoo isnt far from Penola so that might be the deal sealer on top of my willingness to do extra training :-D

I never thought of that bajdas :-o i think that my CAMS Fire & Rescue officiating with South East Automobile Club would cause im the only sole person doing this dangerous officiating so yeah it might help :-)
I'll have to show them my CAMS licence today as well :-D

Screw that bet mate, merely a bet of a single stage, multi-pressure pump will do!

How about betting that it'll get fixed at all! :P
I understand that Stirling Pumper will be, finally, getting a brand new pump soon...hopefully it will solve the problems with it......!

How did you go Robert? Any word on the ITC job?
I went into the office on Friday and the lady who i spoke to on the phone Thursday was really impressed with my resume and such it turns out im the 3rd person to put their name down
So now i have to wait till they draw up their roster for the 2007/2008 fire season and find a place for the casual call ins to be included on it :-)

Bearing in mind ITC are just like Timbercorp they employ contractors to do all their harvesting, fire cover and so on but have those extra positions for 'seasonal' casuals to fill just for the duration of the fire season
The casual ITC firies are only called up when theres a fire in ITC plantations outside of the contracted staff rostered days/hours this includes weekends so hopefully i am one of the lucky ones to be pick although i've gotta do BFF1 again but thats not a problem to me :-)
Plus ITC were impressed when they seen that im a CAMS Fire & Rescue Official for SEAC i've told them that the officiating duties wont affect my ability to respond to call outs and that im more than willing to respond at any time day or night

Do country based people believe this is the end of winter or do you believe more rain to come ?
I trust farmers local knowledge of the seasons better than BoM.
summer is not that far way....
I'm still waiting for winter.. ! :|

RescueHazmat, winter is a figmant of our imaginations these days, the seasons go; summer, autumn, spring- or alternatively, wet and dry, like the territory. (Not that we get much rain anyway).

Bajdas, I am from the metro area, but I can tell you the seasons are changing. The sooner everyone in Australia, from the farmers, to city dwellers, realise this, the better we will be able to prepare. Our whole climate has change dramactically. I am only tweenty years old, but I have noticed that over the past three years there has been a very large change in our climate and weather. I think we are going to have to expect summer to only get hotter and longer. We will have to preparer for summer now.
My opinion only.

Hmm, you could be right there.
Im applying for seasonal with DEH again this year, and ForestrySA too when they come up. I think this year im in better stead for getting the job because I have WAY more fire experience, my job that I had for the first half of this year gave me a Cert 1 in horticulture, I've done heaps of construction/restoration work and I have been working on my fitness, the thing that cost me last year. So, hopefully I will do alright.
Good luck again Robert, may one of us actually get a job this Summer!
Dezza, your a nut mate, they wont let ya take time off for study straight up! :-D
Probie i have both certs in conservation and land management but it really comes down to if you are fit enough :-)
QuoteDezza, your a nut mate :-D
thanks mate, i have acutally other success with other job avenues not involving fire :-D

well, i suffered a case of famous last words.
I have been knocked back from DEH. I got a thanks for coming letter earlier this week. Its pretty disappointing considering I really thought I had a chance this time around. Turns out I didn't even get an interview. However, i do have an interview with ForestrySA for one of their summer positions on the 2nd. hopefully some good will come of that.
I've applied for 2 summer crew jobs and will be putting my name down for the fire tower contracts this week as well with abit of luck i'll get one of the 3 hopefully :-)
For anyone interested in a summer job with DEH, they have just received some further funding to employ more maintenance / fire -fighting crew.
The ads should be out very soon, for jobs commencing in the beginning of February.
Anyone interested should have a keep a look out in the employment pages / websites
Pip
theres an advertisement up on the web at the moment... few positions around the state. 3 month contracts.
Way ahead i submitted my new resume and application letter online Christmas Eve :-)
