pretty crazy
taken from wikipedia
For the period 1 January 2006, to 31 December 2006 the FDNY dealt with the following number of calls:
Structural fires: 27,817
Non-structural fires: 20,702
Non-fire emergencies: 198,202
Medical emergencies: 209,397
Malicious false alarms: 28,836
There were 2,971 serious fires in 2006, defined as those declared 'all hands' or above in severity.
haha, and we think 400 for one brigade is high!
Thats interesting considering we all seem to able to have a go at the americans
on a more serious note is the number of American LODD any where near most other countries when you take into account the number of fires? it 1 death per 600 fires or are they still much worse?
Even the rural brigades there have alot more calls than the CFS cause they are all trained for first response to medical emergencies :-)
Perhaps to put things into perspective, the population of New York in 2006 was estimated to be 19,306,183.
So their population is a bit smaller than the whole of Australia.
If you added the calls of all the Australian fire services to together, you might find we have a similar amount (excluding the medical emergencies)
Pip
Pip you beat me to it  i thought of checking that out last night
still pretty phenomenal though for one city
solve all the MFA problems.....reduce the number of payphones......simple as that.

or to make things really interesting,,, add all the calls for fire service, other rescue services and ambulance services together, and then compare to the FDNY stats...
?
But still were very busy when it comes to rural fires during summer time & fire season and remember were not in competition with our american fire fighting brothers/sisters cause we both come to each others aid in times of disaster
Yeah but we will never get near their stats :-P

I think that is the population of New York State. The population of New York City (which FDNY cover) is around 8 million. Still a few calls though.
