I was thinking, how did the animosity and stigma that seems to be between the CFS and MFS every now and then start and has anyone ever witnessed any full blown arguments between the two services over who is better or are some people just mis-interpreting things.

THis is not a thread to start any arguments and comparisons, I am just curious as to how it all started.

Also just another thought, CFS dont like MFS animosity but then CFS people make small stgma comments about SES, that seems a little bit of double standards.  :-P

Like I said this is not an argument thread just a personal observation that may be wrong but the main point of this is how did the CFS/MFS animosity thing begin.

this happens world over. i can't explain it.

I think the MFS feel threatened by the CFS because we are volunteers, and the CFS are jealous of the MFS because they are professionals, get paid and have more funding... :|

Alan (Big Al)

My mate when he was in a EMA brigade had a run in with a station officer (A temporary one who'd never worked with CFS before) at a scene when a comment was made about who called you useless hilbillies, or to that effect. Some rather heated words were exchanged and a complaint to MFS was made and a apology letter was forwarded to him withtin 24hrs.

A pretty quick resolution i thought. No hard feelings were taken and everyone was chummy after that.

I was talking to some MFS people at the show, and they were hell nice, and impressed with what we were doing at the show. Someone said that they are amazed that we volunteer for what we do, and that we go and fight fires that actually move.

I do believe however that CFS members love their job more, as we volunteer for it, as the MFS get paid, so it feels like a job or another day at the office.

and the SES, well...

and the SES, well...

Its more Jims Mowing than an emergency service. I guess it all comes down to which brigades interect, and then who in that brigade is on the truck that day. It is very possible that we DO look like useles hillbillies...

medevac

theres no doubt.... a LOT of brigades DO look like hill billies  :-D

fire fighter kiki

I find that the full time MFS personell are better towards the CFS personell than the retained MFS fire fighters.. Like I had a retained fire fighter come up to me and say they are better at fighting house fires than the CFS but the CFS are better at fighting bush and scrub fires than what the MFS are but I personally believe we are all the same as we do the same CABA course, not only that we are all fire fighters and we all do things a little different but it gets the job done well.. :-D

Depends where you are from.

Down here in Mt Gambier our brigade along quite well with the MFS and there is very minimal if any of this we are better then you.  I guess a reason for this maybe (apart from being a great bunch of people) in the event of a large fire they can not get the job done without our help and also they have seen us in action numerous times and know we are up to the standard to help them get the job done.

Funny how the bloke on the news the other night was not happy with responce times.... MFS 8 Min's   CFS 5 Min's??? MMMM funny how the volunteers where there faster than the paid staff that where on station....

Manuel

I don't think that people are understanding this, the reason CFS get there beforehand is because their stations are really really far away from MFS stations, so the MFS have to travel a much longer distance in some cases. This is the reason they want to put in more MFS stations.

PF_

dont see a real issue with having more MFS stations, just means when I apply later on in life Ill have a better chance to get in :-D

rescue5271

as I have said in another area its time for a paid cfs and volunteer station like the CFA....

medevac

i think it is worth pointing out, that although there did seem to be a fair bit of CFS bashing going on.... they never said there needed to be more MFS stations, just that fire stations in general were not providing coverage and there needed to be more fire stations in general...

although i still believe the whole thing is a crock

PF_

I cant see Jamo or anyone agreeing to put in more CFS stations.

Is Jamo and co. elected in or do they get appointed? If they're elected, guess which assclown won't be serving another term in the job????

medevac

jamieson (sp?) is the president of the UFU, which you will find has nothing to do with CFS. so even if he was elected i shouldnt think this shamozle would concern him re; re-election as nothing bad has been said about the MFS.....

hmm
