Quite often you see SAAS requesting Peer Support for our green friends. In fact i kind of get the impression it is for all incidents of that nature.

Should CFS adopt this process as part of their volunteer management? I know its generally left up to the OIC and individuals, but im talking about notifying them as a default.

Thoughts?

Alan (Big Al)

It couldn't be a bad thing???

We've also got access to a local chaplain that is willing to come out to a scene at the drop of a hat if we need, which is a pretty handy thing to have.

Yeah,
We have access to a Chaplin also.  He is the Police Chaplain. He is good in the interim until the SPAM team is activated. We have found him beneficial as he actually is on scene and sees exactly what we see.

SPAM should definately be utilised for any Fatality regardless.

But, it doesn't have to stop there... If you feel you may be affected by any incident, big or small.. They are willing to come out and give their support.

Didnt mean to imply otherwise, just suggesting that in particular for fatals (of any kind) that SPAM be responded without having to even ask....

i have dealt with spam team before. they were very caring and helpful and were just listening to our accounts of the incident. I felt happy with knowing that they are there if needed.

also, at one road accident, a guy rocked up to the crash site, and we went to turn him around. we found out it was the victims chaplain, and he was a surprisingly big help in getting him through his ordeal. He had been called by the victims family. He was a big help in keeping the victim calm.

I can honestly say that without the SPAM team and all their support since Black Tuesday, maybe some people wouldn't still be here.

They do an incredible job and people shouldn't be afraid to talk to them...it's not a sign of weakness or that you have a mental health issue if you need to talk about something that has affected you...that's why they are there for us.. :-)

we have a SPAM team member in our brigade and we also make sure we have a debrief after every job no matter how small or big..SAAS must have a good fleet of spam members in there service..

CaptCom

I think that that would be a good practice for all brigades Bill...sometimes it can be the smallest thing that will tip someone over...or a cumulative effect..you are lucky to have a SPAM member in your brigade..

medevac

SPAM may only be 'responded" to incidents at the request of OIC, but they are aware of all fatalities and 'Significant Incidents' as the SPAM head honchos would recieve SOCC SigInc pages...

mengcfs

What the hell does SIGINC stand for anyway???

medevac

significant incident...

mengcfs

medevac

hmmm, nah im pretty fed up with every thread getting turned to crap...

PF_

Sorry mate, I didnt mean to turn it into crap or anything, just a light hearted dig at the filter.

Seriously, threads will always go off on a tangent, it is unlikely threads will always stick to the original toic as everyone has different opinions and thoughts with input.
