My memory of RFW's is from days as a cadet at Williamstown.  On visits to Woods&Forests at Mt Crawford we were shown their firefighting appliance.  A great big Muthatrucker.  Yellow I think, huge snorkel on the roof.  Held approx 3000 litres.  Replaced nowadays by the Fire Kings.

Forestry's were well built aswell. no plastic (or at least reduced to an absolute minimum!). The doors alone weighed about 60Kg

Firefrog

Tea Tree Gully still has one in service.

I remember the first Royal Adelaide Show Display many years ago... TTG's RFW had a minor issue with the diff locks... hehe, minced the centre of the oval!

ahh the memories...

yeah, those things are absolute tanks. They're massive. They'd be interesting to drive!

Yeh, but how much need for petrol/diesel to drive it 100 metres

My personal opinion only.

Not bad to drive.  Fully automatic Allison gear box, as mentioned before you have to be very careful with the diff locks.  Can screw the axles out of them if you hit the hard with them still on.  Very effective trucks for scrub, grass, forest, designed here in SA by Woods & Forests (ForestrySA) and hand built in Sydney by RFW.

Tender is still open so buy one for probie....

I think we should buy one each Bill and donate them to Kalangadoo!
The views I express are my own, and not necessarily of the service I represent!

When i did a weeks work experience with Forestry SA back in high school i was fortunate enough to ride around in both the RFW fire appliance and RFW tankers  :-)

I can tell you this they drive very smoothly but can sometimes not make it up a steep sand hill
