Why is it that group/brigade's have to have all information on there pagers,( 14 moblie.14 arrived,14 stop call small fire,14 returning,14 back on station) is there any need for this to be done?? and is this going to come out of your budget as we have to pay for all these page's??? We should only get page for job, more crew needed and any information that we need to know. I can not see the need for groups'brigades to do a full report page on every job, waste of time and money :?

medevac

personally i wouldnt be happy... especially if it were 2am or whatever. but its up to the brigade how they use there pagers, and it is an operational thing so i cant see any issue.

Camo

I dont mind....i can sit down here in mt gambier and see whats going on up in adelaide

NTPA: ALL CREWS RETURNED RESPOND AS NORMAL 08-04-06 16:26

The message above i agree with.....it lets those crew members unable to attend the last call know that the trucks are back and they can respond as normal.

Stop calls... Or that... Relevant..

Those 40 pages about the trucks every movement..... crap.

Camo

Probaly nothing wrong with a sitrep if the job is going to be prolonged?

That way none of your crew are left in the lurch...also lets the crew know whether they maybe needed later on e.g. relief crews i guess.

If its relevant - then I dont mind so much..... but I do get rather annoyed when "xxx 24 returned to station" comes over the pagers. It also doesnt help relations with my employer to have the pager going off for no apparent reason. Its only set to chirp, but its still enough to distrct people..... Has said he doesnt mind having it on within reason.

simple: set it to vibrate only.

Mike

Good Idea..... but doesnt suit my lifestyle.... and Im not going to start changing pager tones twice a day!

yep you're right, it's stubborn ;)

probie_boy

isn't chirp the same tone that is set when responding calls come through?
if so just set it to a less annoying tone. i use tone 1

Mike

Tone 7 is for call outs.
Chirp is 1 cycle of that tone.
I told a fib before... I actually use Chirp - Vibrate. minor oversight

probie_boy

oh ok. cause the call out tone can be very annoying. at night it cuts through your dreams like a knife!

Mike

:-) I kinda think thats the point! ;)

probie_boy

well, it works on me!

this smiley represents me at 3am when we get a call  :-o

strikeathird

Yea so any way..

I also get annoyed with the poxy messages...

If your not at the call, ring the station if you want to sticky beak about it..

Unless it directly involves the job, and the crews not at the scene / station need to know.. THen find out at the next training night or sumthing..

A page telling crews that a truck is responding to the job, that the truck is at the scene, truck is leaving, and truck is back... Over kill...

CFS_Firey

Does it actually cost more money if you send more pages? I would have thought the cost would be for keeping the system operational and you can send as many or as little pages as you like without affecting the cost...:?

As far as sending out a sitrep every 15 minutes - I would fine it damn annoying, but it obviously works for some brigades...

strikeathird

Either way there would have to be some cost involved.. Probably a ... retainer... as such to keep the system up, and can only ASSUME there would be a per message cost....  You are dialling up, sending data, etc etc..  There has to be cost some where.. ??

Unless as you said its in an initial running cost...

I've got my pager set on tone 7 for all urgent messages and melody 2 for mail-drop messages from what i can recall when being issued with a GRN pager that tone 9 is the exact alert tone which was on the old Link Pagers and would be the best one for callouts

Just a friendly reminder dont put your pager in the bedroom right next to the bed as it could catch you off guard while getting dressed in the morning

It happened to me a couple weeks ago as i was about to put on my t-shirt the pager sounded for a callout instead i ended up running outside to my car while trying to put it on

these smilies represent me being caught off guard and running outside with my t-shirt in one hand and my keys in the otherĀ  :-o

Nothing is worse than being in the shower... pager drops....  and figuring drying takes to long... So u just put your clothes on and let them do the drying...

:D

Number of times I have gotten to the station wearing boxers or not much more...  haha.. good times...

Mike

A valuable lesson taught to me.... if your in the shower or about to take a ..... best to finish and go down a little later (especially the latter). never know when your going to get another chance! ;)

probie_boy

screw that dude, i wipe in the car! hahahahaha

joking (thank god)
