Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.

Hilton Country Fire Service brigade

Im from a rural brigade that dosent get a lot of calls. But we still train weekly, allways turnout with a full crew and go about our job in a professional manner. But we do this out of a shed that is too small for our appliance, and has NO TOILETS, OFFICE or any other perks. We clean our BA in plastic buckets on the floor of the shed because there is no room for a sink.

Why can't we get some decent facilities. We look after the "recycled" appliance we were given as if it were new. Our station despite being too small has won nemerous awards in our town for presentation. So why just because we are a "RURAL" brigade should we be ignored so that you "URBAN" gurus get eveything.
By the way when we do get called out, The jobs are always big nasty one's that take up a lot of time. mainly due to the large area we have to cover and the lack of close support.
I'm sorry but this just pisses me off :x :x :x:x

im with  ya ltbawds, im from an urban station, but i think you deserve equal facilities and respect in rural areas...

ltbawds, I think you will see from most of the posts that the majority agree with you. Rural or urban, it should make no difference, however I am aware of many rural people who only want a shed and then many urban people who want everything.

At the end of the day we all do the same job, regardless of our location and hence why slowly, the barriers are breaking down between the urban and rural brigades, it's just unfortunate that there are a few narrow minded individuals who have never seen the world past their own backyard to realise the differences across the state - maybe one day these people will get out, have their eyes opened and see the big picture!
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.

Sounds like you guys are doing a great job under difficult circumstances.

Here's hoping the facilities you deserve are coming - try using OH&S to give it a push.
There's a difference between genius and stupidity -- genius has it's limits.

My station has a gym, some poles outside the station and fence thingies. :-P  On my running route it goes past the station and I regularly do push-ups, press-ups and step-ups etc on the poles and wall outside.  Thats my gym, Rocky stlye! :-D

My station also has a 7000 litre swimming pool ... on wheels! Sure the access is a bit hard, through the man holes, but the opportunity is there ;)
