According to the BOM.  This is a pre change front, which will last 3 - 4 hours.  Of which after we will experience Hot conditions, and very hot, strong northerly winds...  Before the next change..

Well, the way the BOM are going.. That could mean it is going to hail all day... OR it will suddenly turn to 45 with 95% humidity ! ?

of course... lookign at decoders we will also notice decent fires at burra and kapunda......

It seems as if the Lower South East has been ripped off of the predicted bushfire weather

As it has been overcast all day and have had the occassional shower but no gale force northerlies or temperatures in the low-mid 30's
it's almost as if the cool change doesnt want the South East to have hot weather before cooling down  :-(

SA Country Fire Service Crews are still battling a blaze in the State's Mid North at Burra. The fire has now burnt more than 1000 hectares and is heading into difficult terrain. The fire has jumped across Kooringa Road and Burra to Jamestown Roads and is burning on about a 50-metre front. Additional firefighting crews from SA Country Fire Service and the Department for Environment and Heritage are on the way to the Burra fire to assist those currently on the ground. More than 80 CFS volunteer firefighters are at the scene and are battling the blaze in windy and hot conditions.

It seems the Lower South East escaped the wrath of this bushfire weather relatively unscathed despite having very high winds around 16:30-17:00pm and it seems that Kalangadoo,Nangwarry & Mount McIntyre brigades are the only ones to have been to paged for a smoke sighting

These 2 response messages were sent at 17:33&17:37pm after the smoke
sighting was phoned in (note: these are off the paging site)

1909366 17:33:03 23-12-05 SHQ: *CFSRES: KALANGADOO, NANGWARY, MT MCINTYRE RESPOND SMOKE SIGHTING GRID REFERANCE 800500 NORTH OF KALANGADOO - BOMBERS ATTENDING ALSO > 23/12/2005 17:32:54

On our arrival to the scene it turned out to be raised dust

Apparently lightning has gone through Ngarkat and Billiat National parks. Lets hope some rain was also delivered to the area.

Robert-Robert34

27/12/2005 is a day of total fire ban for the Lower South East im hoping that it doesnt rain like it did the day before xmas eve when we had a fire ban :-)

If Kalangadoo gets called out to any emergency during the day you can assure that ill be posting the response messages that come over the paging site on here  :-D

Wouldn't you rather be on the truck than sitting at home posting what the brigade was going too ???      :?        :-P

I dunno mate, you might retract ur statement bout rain if a raging fire takes ur house, and the town...

Robert-Robert34

Sorry about the statement of hoping there isnt any rain tomorrow it because we've had enough rain already but no fire is gonna take my home or town as ill be standing in it's way with a fire hose

Being that my mum and i are in the same household we have to take in turns of responding to call outs after lessons were learnt from the Linton bushfires in Victoria

So tomorrow im gonna let my mum respond to all fires that Kalangadoo gets called to but if theres a shortage of crew all that needs to be done just to get my attention and response is setting the station siren off :-D

Is having one member of the family on an appliance something self imposed or is it a rule set down by the brigade ??

strikeathird

I was under the impression that technically not 2 members from the same family are 'technically' allowed on the same appliance together... ??  ??  ??

It's the statement you said strikeathird although the rule has been broken 2 times in our brigade this year

The only reason mum and myself broke the rule was because we had a serious shortage of crew when there was a hay truck fire and our Captain let down his guard and went to town thinking nothing would happen leaving only 4 members in the town to respond

2 of them being mum and myself  :-D

So yeah but we didnt get into trouble for that because the OIC which was our 1st Lieutenant told the Captain what for
Kalangadoo Brigade

mattb

I don't recall reading that in the SOP's or OMG's, is anyone able to provide evidence of that ??

I would be surprised if it was something strongly enforced because in  many rural communities you often have the father, son's, uncles, nephews etc in the same town and often in the same brigade.

I know of some brigades that wouldn't be able to respond an appliance if they strictly adhered to that rule.

Robert-Robert34

I see the rule as silly matt because we only have 7 active members and if the brigade started excluding members from the same family from going on the truck at the same time then our brigade wont have a crew to roll
Kalangadoo Brigade

TillerMan

Thats right mattb, our brigade wouldn't be able to respond without 2 people from the same family.

It's all a load of crap, C.F.S threw the idea around for 5 minutes but then realised that it wouldn't work.

Robert34 just both go on the truck, believe me you won't get in trouble.

Robert-Robert34

I wish it was that easy TILLERMAN but our Captain takes his job a little bit too seriously if you know what i mean

Trying to argue with him is like arguing with a brickwall you wont win   :-(

If only we had a captain who would take his job seriously but in a relaxed way  ..... then again the election is in a few months maybe someone who knows how to take his job seriously but knows how to have a laugh every so often might come along and take over from our  current captain  :-D

Mmmm, wishing for extreme conditions tends to suggest that the wisher has not seen too many nasty fires!

kat

There is no rule about family members together.

But I guess your OIC has the right to say who is approved for the job.

I had a couple in the Brigade once that I would try very hard to ensure weren't on the same appliance because of the way they were together. Too much to deal with without them carrying on :-)
