I've tried getting into the MFS but the rule is that you have to reside within 10 minutes or less from the fire station plus the literacy & numercy test is real hard

Whats the point of making CFS a retained service as it would require all new applicants to do the same literacy/numercy some people may not be good at maths

Murray Bridge CFS can handle all MFS callouts if they are jsut given new appliances of equipment to deal with RCR,Hazchem & CBR as well Structual fires

Besides the CFS has been a volunteer service ever sicne it was known as EFS so theres no point in breaking tradition and having 2 paid fire services in SA

Off the topic still - I would hope rather than CFS members go across to be retained that, if CFS can crew appliances and respond to meet community needs that CFS be given the job of doing it - remove the duplication after all SES is RCR in Murray Bridge.

Robert - Murray Bridge CFS have the Hazmat Equipment and basic CBR stuff through Hazmat! They have a pumper (Volvo F7) and a rural and are an excellent and competent team who are just as skilled at urban and specialist incidents as they are at rural!

I've heard a few retained MFS guys on the radio before and they must have got the easy version of the literacy and numeracy test because they were shocking...

Robert you will find that your current appliance is 1987 build which makes it close to the twenty year mark this year. You will see a phase out of most of the rear entry type 34 and 24`s in the next year os so as the new appliances come online and rotations occur.

Kapunda crew are dealing with the sudden passing away of their respected Station Officer.

Condolences go out to his family and crew.
The views I express are my own, and not necessarily of the service I represent!
