Not quite sure what to make of this one...

15:14:44 26-01-13 MFS: *CFSRES01?4052 :3/13/17 90:?,SPOND TREE Do_~,(QLAR?i"EVEL: 1, QUINTIN AV/ G'PvNHILL RD cBMlNd>]aR:ib""93:&O45=TO&q67.8<hl8#&G (tREE*Bl?OkYnO WkOLE icyL. 500MM&DYA?? LEIJ"?+g7850725 :GRHL14 GRHL3?ZX - CFS Greenhill Response

** Edit **

That was found on the CFS paging filter, off the paging site.

Here's the actual page.

15:14:44 26-01-13 MFS: *CFSRES INC0054 26/01/13 15:14 RESPOND TREE DOWN, ALARM LEVEL: 1, QUINTIN AV/ GREENHILL RD CLELAND,MAP:ADL 132 J 5,TG 126, == LARGE TREE BLOCKING WHOLE ROAD. 500MM DIAM. LEAH 0417850725 :GRHL14 GRHL34 : CFS Greenhill Response, CFS East Torrens Group Officers Response

Any idea for the difference?

Simple - a corrupted message, which occurs when the message isn't received properly by the decoder..... things like weather conditions affect the decoding....

maybe a tad harsh.....but kinda true. Maybe it's time for some tough love within the Brigade....I'm sure if it's an issue then the management team will rectify it

They asked the IC of the job if they were required for assistance and they were asked to respond so they did..
Why should they get in the filtered?

Why should they get in the filtered?

Because it is NOT the way the system is meant to work. If the IC needed them he should have made the appropriate request through Adelaide Fire.

By them basically inserting themselves into the job, they have effectively self responded. IMT / Region who are trying to manage the job would have no idea they are even out there. This is the sort of bull filtered that creates issues such as firefighters not getting fed, because catering is suddenly 5-10 meals short. Not to mention if there was another job that needed the 24, and it's not there because it hasnt been booked off accordingly (dont know if they did book off or not).

But I think the donkey whooping might refer more to the pager message itself. Someone is going to get the Chief Officers size 11 firmly implanted in their gluteus maximus for that one.

I agree with this.
I was told that apparently Sturt base requested them, but not through AF.
Just go through official channels.
What if there was an incident in Burnside's area and they dispatched trucks that were at Mitcham...

What are they gonna do... dock their pay?
besides, impossible to tell who sent it unless they were silly enough to do so from their personal PC.

it's pretty obvious who the person who sent that page was.  But that aside I'm not sure why some of you seem to be assuming Burnside didn't contact AF and so on. For info Burnside24 was dispatched by AF at 20:45 and their BWC at 20:56. Don't assume just cos you didn't see a pager message it wasn't done "properly".  If I was out in the truck at training with a crew and saw a fire, I too would contact the IC and offer my assistance, I don't see anything wrong with this at all, quite the opposite in fact.

I tend to agree, in this instance (and only this instance). The groups and brigades around this piece of land know exactly what it is, and the issues with water that exist, particularly at night when access to the tanks are difficult. Things were a bit exciting for a while, so its easy to be critical of an IC that is asked if they want a Tanker (BWC is just gay), and they say yes....not official process? Sure.....did it get a truck full of water to the fireground, where there wasnt any, when it was needed?....yes. If the worst thing happens that IMT is confused and they miss a meal....so be it. I'd take that as the On Scene Commander anyday. Sturt Base should have followed it up with AF after they said yes.....there were a few things that could have been improved in that area tonight.....but thats what happens....we do stuff, and we learn a bit more

Always easy to bend the rules when it suits us hey Ted?

It's not hard to put the request through the appropriate channels.

actually, it was at the time...for a few reasons....

Let's not concentrate on "the rules" per se, sure things can always go better, as I said, we do a job and we learn..... instead we could comment on the fact that the first arriving trucks (Belair) did an awesome job stopping this job getting away to the north east and into some seriously difficult (and populated) areas under some very strong gully winds. But thats not what excites the forum is it? It's ok....there'll be a rule for that I'm sure

I don't know if it is still the case, but in the past I've added resources to an incident without a page as the crew were already in the truck.  AF asked if we wanted it paged or not.
